United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania Nonprofit social service agency in Northeastern Pennvylania
www.uncnepa.org
(1)

UNC’s beginnings date back to 1923, when members of the Bethel Church opened a small settlement house in center city Scranton to serve the needs of the African American community. In 1924, another settlement house opened to serve the new immigrant populations living in the Lower West Side of Scranton. These two independent centers merged in 1970 to form United Neighborhood Services, later renamed United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania. UNC continues to embrace the settlement house vision to aid in the solution of problems at the neighborhood level. MISSION: To work together with neighbors to provide services and create opportunities that empower individuals and build strong, interdependent communities. VISION: To address emerging social needs and be an innovative leader in building strong interdependent communities based upon our traditional commitment of partnering with individuals, families and neighborhoods. UNC is proud to be an independent member agency of the United Way of Lackawanna & Wayne Counties, Alliance for Strong Families and Communities, Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania, National Low Income Housing Coalition, and Housing Coalition of Lackawanna County.

❤️ Learning Lifesaving Skills Together! ❤️

It was a hands-on day of learning for UNC's Community Education students! 🚑👏
Last Thursday, seven students earned their CPR certification, with a few of their children joining in on the experience! What a wonderful opportunity to learn valuable lifesaving skills while spending time together! ❤️

UNC's Family Literacy Program, funded by the PA Department of Education, helps families develop a love of learning, while our School-Aged Tutoring Program, supported by the City of Scranton's ARPA Educational Catch-up Grant, helps students build the skills they need to succeed.🌟

It takes a village… and a whole lot of envelopes! ✉️❤️

Our Feed A Friend campaign is officially on its way!

Over two days, UNC staff from across the organization rolled up their sleeves to help stuff, label, and prepare letters for mailing. There was plenty of teamwork, laughter, and a little assembly-line chaos along the way!

This is our biggest fundraising appeal of the year, and for good reason. Each Thanksgiving, UNC's Feed A Friend campaign helps thousands of families with children in Lackawanna County put a holiday meal on the table.

A huge thank-you to our staff for making a big job feel a whole lot smaller. And a special shout-out to Alex from Center City Print, who came to our rescue with extra supplies delivered to our door when we ran out of envelopes!

Now the letters are headed to mailboxes across our community, and we're hoping they'll inspire the generosity that's made Feed A Friend possible for more than 40 years 🦃❤️

Thank you to LIFE Geisinger for bringing Dublin by. We loved having such a special guest!
