Law enforcement agencies across Northeast Pennsylvania are increasing DUI enforcement efforts as warmer weather, holiday weekends, and tourism activity bring more drivers onto local roads. Counties including Lackawanna, Wayne, Wyoming, Monroe, Pike, and Susquehanna have all participated in coordinated DUI patrols and sobriety checkpoints aimed at reducing impaired driving accidents.
Police officials say the goal is simple — save lives before tragedy strikes.
With increased traffic heading toward lakes, campgrounds, bars, restaurants, and seasonal events, authorities are reminding drivers that even “a few drinks” can impair judgment and reaction time. Pennsylvania State Police and local departments are working together through targeted enforcement campaigns funded in part by highway safety initiatives.
DUI checkpoints are typically set up in high-traffic areas or locations with a history of alcohol-related crashes. Officers may stop vehicles briefly to check for signs of impairment, verify licenses, and ensure drivers are operating safely.
