Happy World Teachers’ Day! Through ASEC programs, Catholic sisters gain knowledge and skills that they take back to their communities and ministries, where they continue to serve others in meaningful ways.

For many ASEC alumni, that service includes teaching. In classrooms across Africa, sisters are helping students learn, grow, and develop the skills they need to become the next generation of leaders.

Today, we celebrate the teachers who share their knowledge, shape young minds, and build stronger communities through education.

Happy Feast of St. Francis of Assisi! 🌿🕊️

Today, we joyfully celebrate with our Franciscan family, especially the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia, one of ASEC's founding members, and all those who are inspired by St. Francis' example of peace, humility, service, and care for animals and all creation.

May his life of faith and service continue to inspire us to build stronger communities and serve others with joy.

We’re grateful for opportunities to connect with community leaders in Scranton and to share more about ASEC’s mission and the sisters we serve across Africa.

It was wonderful to see ASEC’s Executive Director, Sr. Draru Mary Cecilia, LSMIG, and Development Director, Sr. Nancy Kamau, LSOSF, represented at this gathering.

And we love that there was even a little Swahili practice!

From strengthening financial management to improving accountability, the training provided through the Sisters Leadership Development Initiative (SLDI) helps sisters make informed decisions and build stronger organizations.

What does it mean to become more than a teacher?

For students at Boni Consilii Girls Vocational Secondary School in Uganda, Sr. Gertrude Tusiime, OLGC, HESA program alumna, has become a mentor, guide, and mother figure.
