What does it mean to become more than a teacher?

For students at Boni Consilii Girls Vocational Secondary School in Uganda, Sr. Gertrude Tusiime, OLGC, HESA program alumna, has become a mentor, guide, and mother figure.

ASEC-supported sisters are helping girls see what is possible through education! 📚

Joyce, a student and Maasai girl, is the #1 student in her class with a 93% average. She is already using what she has learned to help her family and community.

Inspired by Sr. Cresensia Tarimo, FCS (FSCM), SLDI program alumni, Joyce dreams of becoming a lecturer and helping other young people reach their goals. Support ASEC and help more Sisters create opportunities like this.

ASEC Executive Director Sr. Draru Mary Cecilia, LSMIG, Development Director Sr. Nancy Kamau, LSOSF, Regional Director West Africa & Director – Ghana Sr. Francisca Damoah, SIJ, and Regional Director – East & Central Africa Sr. Lina Wanjiku Ndung’u, SE, recently met with the new Apostolic Nuncio to the United States in Washington, D.C.

As ASEC continues its mission to educate Catholic sisters across Africa, we are grateful for opportunities to build relationships and strengthen connections in support of this work.

ASEC is also looking forward to being in Washington, D.C., for our annual reception this fall!

ASEC was grateful to be part of this year’s LCWR gathering in Orlando, FL! We had meaningful conversations with sisters and friends who stopped by our table.

We also hosted a special dinner with over 70 attendees, where two ASEC alumni shared personal stories about how ASEC programs have allowed them to better serve their communities and ministries.

Conversations like the ones we had at LCWR remind us that ASEC is more than a facilitator of education. It is a growing network of sisters learning, leading, and serving across Africa.

Thank you to everyone who connected with us at LCWR! We hope to see you again at next year’s conference. Support ASEC through our current new donor matching grant and help us continue educating Catholic sisters in Africa.

Today, ASEC joins Catholics around the world in celebrating the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Mary's unwavering faith, humility, and trust in God continue to inspire Catholic Sisters as they serve their communities with compassion, hope, and love. We give thanks for her example and for the many sisters across Africa who carry her spirit into their ministries every day.

Today, on International Youth Day, ASEC celebrates the Catholic Sisters who are helping shape the next generation through education, mentorship, healthcare, and community service.

Inspired by this year’s theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” we recognize the Sisters who empower young people to turn their ideas, talents, and hopes into meaningful action in their communities and beyond.

Through their dedication and service, Catholic Sisters are nurturing young leaders, creating opportunities, and helping build a more just, compassionate, and sustainable future.

When sisters receive education, they return to their communities with the knowledge and skills to create lasting opportunities for young people across Africa. Together, we are building a brighter future, one leader at a time.
