ASEC - African Sisters Education Collaborative

ASEC - African Sisters Education Collaborative We facilitate access to education for Catholic nuns in Africa so they can make an impact.

The African Sisters Education Collaborative (ASEC) provides access to education for Catholic Sisters in Africa. With a quality education, these women religious become qualified to serve as teachers, as well as in healthcare, spiritual, and social service ministries in their countries. As the sisters themselves are educated, they, in turn, educate more African people. Because of this ripple effect,

we believe that education will help African nations become more self-sufficient. Much of our work explores how the use of technology can help African Sisters better serve their communities.

On Pentecost Sunday, we celebrate the Spirit that unites us as one body in Christ. Across Africa, Catholic sisters continue to bring hope, compassion, and service to their communities through education, leadership, and ministry.

As we reflect on this day, may we remember the strength found in community and the call to serve one another with faith and love.

Across continents and cultures, collaboration creates stronger communities. This World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, ASEC is proud to partner with the Mother Cabrini Institute on Immigration at Villanova University for the global initiative, Refugees & Migrants in Our Common Home.

This June, educators, researchers, faith leaders, and advocates will gather at ASEC partner university, Tangaza University in Nairobi, Kenya, for the Africa Regional Conference focused on migration, dialogue, and building more inclusive communities. Through partnerships like this, ASEC continues working alongside institutions across Africa and beyond to strengthen leadership, expand understanding, and respond to global challenges with compassion and collaboration.

This Mother’s Day, we honor mothers in all the ways they nurture, guide, and care for others. We recognize May as the Month of Mary, the mother of Jesus, whose example of faith, compassion, and service continues to inspire us.

Across Africa, Catholic sisters serve as spiritual mothers in their communities each day, caring for those in need, uplifting others through education, healthcare, pastoral ministry, and outreach, and offering hope where it is needed most.

Today, we celebrate all mothers and mother figures whose love creates lasting impact. Happy Mother’s Day from ASEC! 🌷🩷

Across Africa, Catholic sisters are gathering for something more than a workshop. Through ASEC’s HESA Reflective Learning Workshops, participants are reflecting on their journeys, reconnecting with peers, and renewing their sense of purpose within their studies and ministries.

Held throughout the year across partner countries, these workshops create space for sisters to celebrate progress, strengthen support networks, and respond to real challenges identified by participants themselves.

Workshops have already taken place in Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania, Cameroon, and Kenya, with more scheduled this May in South Sudan, Malawi, Lesotho, Zambia, Ghana, and Kenya. Together, these gatherings continue building connection, learning, and shared purpose across countries.

ASEC’s 4th annual Night of Storytelling brought our community together for an evening of powerful reflections, meaningful connections, and stories of impact that continue far beyond one night!

From Sr. Kathleen Burns, IHM, sharing how ASEC-supported education is changing the face of religious life in Africa, to Kelsi Curren, LCSW, reflecting on lessons of dignity and compassion learned alongside Sr. Agnes Muni, LSOSF, in Kenya, to Rev. Stephen Kow Bosomafi, V.F., speaking about sisters in Ghana who are strengthening their communities through education, each story demonstrates that investing in sisters creates lasting impact.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, supported the event, and continues to help build bridges and strengthen communities through ASEC’s mission.
