These members of the Scranton Chapter traveled to Italy where they immersed themselves in the culture, sampled local food and drink, and attended the Race of the Saints in the medieval town of Gubbio. Known there as the Festa dei Ceri or Corsa dei Ceri, this is an ancient festival that dates back to 1160 and honors the city's patron saint, Bishop Ubaldo Baldassini. The only other place in the world where this event takes place is Jessup, Pa., where it was introduced in 1909 by residents who emigrated from Gubbio. UNICO Scranton will conduct its charity golf tournament on Monday, May 18 at Elmhurst Country Club in Moscow, Pa. Proceeds will benefit Outreach Center for Community Resources, which helps more than 2,500 adults and children each year to thrive by offering resources for life skills, literacy, employment training, parenting, early childhood education, youth mentoring, wrap-around case management, and more.

This year's honorary chair is Dr. Peter Cognetti, M.D., a respected physician and leader in the local medical community, as well as a recipient of UNICO National’s prestigious Cianci Humanitarian Award for his exceptional dedication and service to mankind.

UNICO Scranton's 2026 Golf Tournament has quite the spectacular Honorary Chair ⛳

Dr. Peter Cognetti, a respected physician and leader in the local medical community, has been a dedicated member of UNICO Scranton for many years. In 2023, he was honored with UNICO National’s prestigious Cianci Humanitarian Award for his exceptional service and commitment to helping others.

Beyond his medical career, Dr. Cognetti has provided care during disasters and served communities in need around the world. He remains actively involved in numerous organizations, including the United Way, St. Luke’s Foundation for Haiti, and the NEPA Healthcare Foundation, where he serves as Board Chair.

A proud Italian American, devoted husband, father of five, and grandfather of nine, Dr. Cognetti truly embodies the spirit of “Service Above Self.”

The tournament is coming up on May 18th! It will be at Elmhurst Country Club. Your support of the tournament will benefit Outreach - Center for Community Resources.
