As A4LE + EDmarket continues bringing our communities, programs, and conversations together, we're excited to welcome Bold Women Collective programming to the A4LE + EDmarket community.

Creating the future of learning environments requires more than great ideas. It requires leaders willing to challenge assumptions, navigate uncertainty, advocate for change, and move forward when the path isn't completely clear.

In this Bold Women virtual session, Crista Samaras, founder of Brave Enterprises, explores how fear can be understood not as a signal to stop, but as information leaders can learn to recognize and use.

Participants will examine how fear shows up physically, emotionally, and professionally; identify where it may be limiting their leadership; and explore how greater self-awareness can help them take meaningful risks, pursue ambitious goals, and lead change with greater confidence.

Because transforming learning environments starts with people willing to imagine something better, and brave enough to help make it happen.

Participants will explore how to:

✳️ Recognize fear and uncertainty when they arise in leadership and decision-making
✳️ Use honest self-reflection to strengthen confidence and leadership
✳️ Set ambitious goals that challenge existing assumptions
✳️ Build the courage to advocate for ideas that can improve learning and learning environments

We're spotlighting one of our valued Annual Partners: Nook Pod USA!

Nook Pod USA transforms overlooked areas on campus into spaces where students, teachers, and staff can focus, reset, and recharge. Designed with wellness and neuro-inclusivity in mind, their modular, mobile pods give schools a flexible way to create supportive spaces within classrooms, libraries, hallways, and other shared environments.

As Stewart Brown of Nook Pod USA shares, “Our partnership with A4LE connects us with like-minded leaders who are shaping the future of learning environments. Together, we're advocating for spaces that prioritize student and faculty wellness as an essential part of school design.”

As a Certified Autism Resource, Nook is helping schools think differently about how shared environments can support the needs of every learner, without requiring renovations or permanent changes to the space

That's the kind of partner energy we love! Thank you, Nook Pod USA, for helping create learning environments where wellness, belonging, and student success have a place to thrive.

SchoolsNEXT is more than a design competition; it’s an opportunity for students to imagine what the future of learning could look like.

Open to all middle school and high school teams, the A4LE SchoolsNEXT Design Competition challenges students to research, collaborate, think critically, and design healthy, sustainable, resilient learning environments for the future.

Students get to bring their ideas to life while building skills in design, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and innovation.

And there are several ways to get involved:
🏫 Schools: Register a middle or high school team to compete.
🤝 Professionals: Volunteer as a mentor and help students connect their ideas to the real-world planning and design process.
⭐ Organizations: Sponsorship opportunities are available to help make this experience possible for students and schools.

The competition is the heart of SchoolsNEXT, and we’d love to see more students bring their ideas, creativity, and voices to the table.

2026–2027 registration is now open, and participation is free.

A few weeks ago, the A4LE + EDmarket Global Boards gathered in Manitou Springs, Colorado, for a meaningful time of connection, collaboration, and service.

The retreat marked the first opportunity for members of the A4LE Global Board and EDmarket Executive Board to come together since our merger, an important step forward as we continue building one organization with one vision.

While in the Colorado Springs area, we also had the privilege of spending time at The Place, an organization dedicated to helping young people exit homelessness and build self-determined, fulfilled lives. The Place provides critical resources, supportive relationships, and opportunities that help young people move toward safe, stable, and successful futures.

Our board members toured the facility, learned more about the organization’s work, and rolled up their sleeves to support its mission.

Together, we:
🌱 Cleared overgrown garden beds and planted new flowers and plants
🌿 Cleaned and refreshed the front entrance to create a more welcoming space
🥫 Stocked and organized the food pantry to help make essential resources more accessible

We are grateful to the staff at The Place for welcoming us, sharing their work, and allowing us to contribute in a small but tangible way.

As an organization committed to creating environments where people can learn, grow, and thrive, this experience was a powerful reminder that a welcoming place can make a meaningful difference.

A4LE Chapter Spotlight: A4LE Chesapeake Bay Delaware Valley Chapter

On April 29, the CBDV Chapter toured Ehrman Crest Elementary School in Seneca Valley School District, one of Western Pennsylvania’s most innovative elementary learning environments, designed by CannonDesign.

Despite being constructed during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the facility stands as a remarkable example of forward-thinking educational design. Jeremy Dwyer of CannonDesign led an outstanding tour, showcasing the school’s immersive learning spaces created in collaboration with the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh.

A huge thank you to CannonDesign, Meteor Education, and Learning Environment Planning for sponsoring this event and helping create meaningful connections for our members and guests.

We were especially excited about the strong turnout, with many attendees experiencing A4LE for the first time. The networking gathering afterward, hosted by Meteor Education, sparked exciting conversations about continued involvement and professional learning opportunities.

Events like this remind us how powerful thoughtful design and community engagement can be in shaping the future of learning environments.
