New York State's official bird, the Eastern Bluebird, is indeed wearing Knick's colors! Let's Go Knicks! 2025 Bird Photo of the Year Contest
Congratulations to Robert Burk!!

The winner of BRSS's 2025 Bird Photo of the Year contest is Robbie Burk's photo of a Hooded Warbler, taken in Central Park on August 28th.

Since May of 2024, Robbie has been a regular submittor of great photographs to our program. When he's not on the birding trail, Robbie is a professor of pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He splits his time between The Bronx and Manhattan and his two great birding "patches" are Central Park and Pelham Bay Park.

Over half of the bird photos we featured in 2025 got votes in our contest, a testament to the quality and variety of the pictures you submitted. We thank Robbie and the other 42 photographers who submitted bird photos to BRSS last year. Your efforts give us a weekly reminder of the beauty around us in southern Westchester and environs.

2026 Annual Meeting

BRSS members and friends are invited to join us for our annual meeting at the beautiful Jay Estate in Rye. Complimentary wine and cheese and other refreshments will be served.

Before the meeting, please join us for an optional bird walk in the Jay Estate grounds and gardens.

At the meeting we will be recognizing our BRSS 2026 honoree -- wildlife rehabilitator Lorraine Izzo, who has pursued this labor of love in our area for over 20 years. In 2014, Lorraine established the nonprofit Center for Wildlife Rescue in Yonkers with a mission to provide emergency care to orphaned, injured, and displaced native wildlife and to promote conservation through scientific research and recommendations and educational and outreach programs.

We also will be recognizing the 2025 Bird of the Week photographer chosen by the membership, and members will vote for the upcoming slate of directors, and for all four officers of the Society.

We will also have a Swap Table for exchange of birding books, optical equipment, etc. Bring your old, serviceable goods to swap!

We look forward to seeing you at the Jay Estate.
