The Savannah Costuming Academy page is where you can learn about joining our group, upcoming workshops, Open Houses, and other events.

SCA is an organization that promotes the hands-on learning of quality constructed costumes to everyone in the community. We invite anyone over the age of 8 of any experience level to join our group! Sign up by going to the Savannah Campus Facebook Group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1433851313540920/) and/or by texting “” to the number 81010 in order to receive updates. Courses consist of at least 6 workshops that focus on skills such as: sewing all stretch knit and lightweight fabrics (Action Spandex); working with foam, thermoplastic, and other materials for armor (Body Armor); and sewing all mid-weight and heavyweight non-stretch fabrics (Durable Clothing). They range from beginner to complex techniques, are focused on different costume pieces, and are scheduled for eight hours so you can complete an entire piece during that time. At our location, members have spacious workstations and access to equipment and supplies like sewing machines, power tools, scrap materials, other consumables, etc. Celebration days are a way for members to show off their newly made costumes and offer a family friendly event to allow kids, teens, and adults to meet new people and recruit potential members. They are themed for Superheroes, Medieval Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and much more! They ALL include games, crafts, music, Costume Parades, and more! Movie premiere attendances are hosted by the Royal Cinemas IMax Theater in Pooler, and we always promote a film with our costumes themed to go with it. Convention Appearances are rare since we only market to people in the local area, and these are often scheduled either rarely, or not in accordance with our other events. When we do have a convention appearance, we run them similar to a Movie Premiere, just not with a specific theme for the costumes.

Just when you thought it couldn't be any better...WONDERFUL NEWS! We are happy to announce that we have confirmed our home for the Hinesville Chapter at the Connection Center!
After meeting and discussing this venture with Heather (Connection Theater) and Ben (building administrator), we're so excited to say that we're working together to make the Connection Center our official Hinesville Chapter home!
This gives us a place to bring people together for all our sewing, costume construction, armor & prop building, pattern work & adaptation, and creative problem solving needs. Most of all, this will be your community where people can develop their skills, as well as teach and learn from one another.

We're tentatively looking at starting workshops in January 2027.

But before we get there, we've got some work to do!

We will need to move in equipment and supplies, and prepare the storage and workshop areas. We're also planning a Setup Day, where members can come help us clean, organize, and set up to get ready for the actual SCA workshops.

Then we'll be holding an Official Opening & Community Meetup, where everyone can come see the location, our setup, meet other makers, help shape how future workshops will work, and celebrate the official start of the SCA Hinesville Chapter. More information about those, and January workshops will be coming soon.

We're super excited to bring this to the Hinesville area— and we're even more excited to build the first official satellite chapter of Savannah Costuming Academy with you.

BIG NEWS! We are incredibly excited to announce that we have a new home at the Jacob Grant Community Center in Richmond Hill!

We were recently contacted by Jennifer Handley, who runs it, and after meeting with her and discussing what SCA is all about, we're thrilled to say that we're working together to make the Center our new home!

This gives us a place to once again bring people together for Sewing & costume construction, Armor & prop building, Pattern work & adaptation, Creative problem solving, Teaching and learning from one another, and, most importantly, a community where people can develop their skills

We're tentatively looking at restarting regular SCA workshops in January 2027.
But before we get there, we've got some work to do!

Over the next few months, we'll be getting the new space organized, moving in equipment and supplies, and preparing the workshop area. We're also planning a Build Day, where members can come help us clean, organize, set up, and turn this new space into an actual SCA workshop space.

Then we'll be holding an Re-Opening & Community Meetup, where everyone can come see the new location, meet other makers, help shape how future workshops will work, and celebrate the return of SCA. More information about those, and January workshops will be coming soon.

We're excited to bring that back to the Richmond Hill area — and we're even more excited to build the next chapter of Savannah Costuming Academy with you.
This isn't simply a new room for us. It's a new beginning.
