🪽Today our hearts are heavy as we say goodbye to a truly extraordinary soul, Maria Pearson.

🩷Maria first came to our rescue in 2021 through the beautiful work of the Small Choices Foundation and founder by Kate Poppet
She had just begun her cancer journey and, somewhat reluctantly, came to one of our healing events where we partnered with Small Choices to support people navigating cancer through the love, presence, and healing power of horses.🐴🙌

The moment Maria met Church, our giant Paint horse, something magical happened. ✨Church fell in love with Maria, and Maria fell in love with him❤️.
I will never forget standing outside Church’s stall and run while John Denver played in the background as Maria groomed him. The connection between them was so pure and so powerful. and I were moved to tears. It was one of those moments in life you never forget.💛

Throughout her cancer journey, we continued sending her videos of Church running, playing, and happily eating anything in sight.

Those videos brought Maria so much joy❤️

Last weekend,thanks to Small Choices — and to her beautiful friend Tracy, whose love and support helped make this trip possible — Maria was able to come visit us. What a gift those 2 days became. We showed her all around the ranch, took her on the ATV with the herd of horses running behind us like a wild safari, and watched her reconnect with Church and soak in the love of all the horses.❤️

Maria was glowing.⭐️

Her laughter filled the ranch. Her smile lit up every space she entered. She told us she hadn’t felt that happy, relaxed, and peaceful in a very long time. On Saturday afternoon, before leaving the next morning, she came by to say goodbye. We hugged tightly and promised we would get her back out to California again soon. She looked so vibrant, so full of life, so filled with joy.
.💔The next day we found out that Maria passed away.

🥲The news has brought such sadness, but as our tears fall, I keep returning to the joy of those final days. The laughter. The love. The peace she felt. The way she connected so deeply with Church once again. How blessed are we that she left this world surrounded by love, happiness, connection, and peace?❤️🙌❤️

💫Maria was pure light. Pure kindness. Pure goodness. A beautiful soul loved deeply by humans and horses alike.

🩷🪽Maria, thank you for the gift of you. Thank you for your courage, your heart, your warmth, and your love. The imprint you left on all of us will remain forever.

✨I truly believe God wanted one of His brightest angels back home.

🩷🙏🏻Today, from all of us at Believe Ranch & Rescue—Siri, Bek, and our beautiful herd of 50 rescued horses—we pause with deep gratitude to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to this country.

Because of their courage, sacrifice, and selflessness, we get to live in freedom… to love freely, to serve others, to build meaningful lives, and to create places of healing like Believe Ranch & Rescue.

☀️As we step outside this morning watching our horses graze peacefully, and feeling the gift of another day, we are reminded that freedom is never free.

🐴And as horse lovers, we feel especially called to remember this truth:

🇺🇸Freedom wasn’t fought alone. Freedom was fought on the back of a horse.

For generations, horses stood beside the brave—carrying soldiers into battle, transporting supplies, enduring unimaginable hardship, and giving their own lives in service alongside the men and women they faithfully carried. Their courage, loyalty, and sacrifice helped shape the freedoms we hold dear today.

🎖️So today, we honor not only the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for this nation, but also the incredible horses who served beside them.

Today, the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee officially advanced legislation containing language to prohibit the transport of equines destined for slaughter.

For decades, tens of thousands of American horses—former racehorses, beloved companions, work horses, wild horses, and innocent equines of every kind—have been shipped across our borders to horrific slaughterhouses.

And while many voices have helped push this issue forward, we also want to be honest:

❌ FALSE INFORMATION from the AVMA :
“Striking the brain with a captive bolt - the method used in process facilities - is humane and poses far fewer challenges for disposal. In their 2020 Guidelines on Euthanasia. the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) stated, “Physical disruption (“captive bolt” methods are inexpensive, humane, and painless if performed properly, and leave no drug residues in the animal’s remains. Furthermore, animals presumably experience less fear and anxiety with methods that require little preparatory handling”. Due to public outcry the VMA and the AVMA has since rescinded this statement and no longer voice support for horse slaughter!💔

❎TRUTH: The United States shut down horse slaughter because behind the scenes footage showed the captive bolt NOT killing horses 80% of the time. They were then dismembered alive! The captive bold is used on animals with short necks—horses have long necks that swing wildly. Also, horses are terrified as they watch other horses being killed before their eyes. How can the AVMA presume they are less fearful and less anxious?

The HORSE SLAUGHTER PIPELINE is being exploited even more than we ever imagined! There is a reason horse traders and kill buyers operate at night! There is NO oversight and many states don’t require drivers to have paperwork if carrying “slaughter bound horses” across state lines!

🚨Reports and investigations have raised deeply disturbing concerns about horse transport routes being exploited for criminal activity.🚨

Horse trailers crossing borders and moving interstate should NEVER become vehicles for:
⚠️ Human trafficking
⚠️ Smuggling operations
⚠️ Organized crime networks
⚠️ Disease transmission risks
⚠️ Animal cruelty hidden behind commerce!

And while innocent American horses suffer unimaginable cruelty in this pipeline, Americans deserve answers.
