Today, we celebrate freedom, resilience, and the continued pursuit of equality.

As we reflect on the significance of freedom, it’s important to recognize that access to housing has not been equal. For generations, African American families faced barriers to housing and homeownership through discriminatory practices such as redlining and unfair lending practices. These challenges contributed to lasting disparities in wealth, homeownership rates, and access to opportunity.

This Juneteenth, we celebrate the progress made while recognizing the importance of continuing to expand equitable access to housing and homeownership opportunities for all. By supporting fair housing practices, we help create a future where every family has the opportunity to thrive.

If fundraising feels like a lot right now, we highly recommend the Fundraiser Impact Method with Cat Slack of Cat Slack Consulting.

This course helped boost our fundraising confidence & gave us practical, actionable tools to use! Instead of wondering what to do next, we were given specific steps to build stronger donor relationships and grow support for our mission to bring more housing to the North Bay.

If you’ve stopped by any of our recent tabling events, you might have spotted a fresh new face on our team! We are thrilled to officially welcome Henry Garcia as Generation Housing’s Summer 2026 Policy & Research Intern! 🎉

A Sonoma County native and first-generation college student, Henry is a rising senior at Claremont McKenna College, where he studies Public Policy and Legal Studies. His academic work has sparked a passion for state and local policymaking, particularly the role of housing and land-use policies in shaping opportunity, affordability, and community well-being.

Henry's interest in housing policy is also deeply personal. Having moved more than 10 times while growing up, he understands firsthand how housing stability impacts families and communities. This experience has fueled his commitment to advancing policies that support low-income households, immigrant communities, and future generations of Sonoma County residents.

This summer, Henry will support Generation Housing's policy research, legislative analysis, community outreach, and education efforts as we work to create more housing opportunities throughout the North Bay.

Please join us in giving a warm welcome!

On Tuesday, June 2nd, the Santa Rosa City Council held a Housing Strategy Study Session. During the session the council considered action on AB 1033 and SB 10 - our leading Housing for Healthy Communities policies.

We are grateful for the City's ongoing housing efforts. The Council unanimously asked staff to continue exploring both policies: preparing an adoption package for AB 1033 and a future study session to explore SB 10.

We want to thank everyone who showed up to speak for housing, the Council for their continued commitment, and City Staff for their hard work navigating an ever-changing housing landscape.
