Happy Independence Day holiday to Seagrove Garden Club members, families, friends and to everyone in Santa Rosa Beach who enjoys our weekly Flower Shuttle creations. A small crew of Flower Shuttle fans met Monday to create red, white and blue arrangements with wedding flowers collected by Ashley Brammer, red roses and carnations and patriotic cans, bows and decorations. Thanks to everyone who participated and many others who contributed by decorating cans and bows and to Veronica Ertl for the holiday picks. If you missed the fun, we will meet again July 13 with more flowers! No Flower Shuttle July 6.

Thanks to stalwart Seagrove Garden Club members for braving a rainy Memorial Day morning to share flowers with veterans’ families and others attending the ceremony honoring local fallen heroes traditionally held at Historic Gulf Cemetery in Santa Rosa Beach. Due to the rain, The Chapel at Crosspoint hosted the event so Flower Shuttle was canceled. Melissa Gojdics and Eileen O’Grady prepped two dozen hydrangeas, roses and other donated wedding flowers while Jane Pinkston, Patsy Powell, Mara Fiorentino and Christine Zelm helped hand out flowers as the event ended. It was great to see a few former club members who we’d love to see in the future!

Seagrove Garden Club members wish Judy Cox, right, nothing but sunshine and bouquets as she relocates to be closer to her family. An active club member for years and part of the backbone of Flower Shuttle, Judy is irreplaceable. She keeps Flower Shuttle going, making flower deliveries to Brookdale each Monday with Carolyn Lohmiller, left. Judy shared her love of Ikebana floral design with members last year. We will miss you, Judy!

It might be sunny in Seaside and raining in Rosemary Beach but meteorologist Chris Smith can explain it all via his Panhandle Weather app.
Smith, a favorite local weather caster at Panama City’s WJHG-TV for 16 years, told Seagrove Garden Club members about his recent career move at the club’s May meeting at Pazzo Italiano in Santa Rosa Beach. Smith operates his new streaming weather service from his home as part of a trend of targeted, localized weather information.
Panhandle Weather is building a network of cameras so customers can see real-time weather conditions around the area.
President Marie Spafford thanked outgoing club officers and welcomed Debbie Schneider
as 2026-27 president; Patsy Powell, secretary; and Carolyn Dzelzkalns and Kathy Martin, treasurers. Marie will serve as parliamentarian. Four members will share vice president duties: Kathy Askew, Sheri Allen, Ashley Brammer and Linda Cox.
Members were invited to volunteer for committees and to make centerpieces.

Many thanks to Ann Simpson and Barb Kenney who marked the beginning of Spring with a day of cleaning and adding new plants at the Sundial Garden at Eden Gardens State Park. The garden survived the cold winter with few problems, Ann says. She invites all Seagrove Garden Club members to visit the garden in a few weeks to see how the new plants have filled in.

Michael D. Smith was preaching to the choir Wednesday and the choir loved it. “Flowers can change your day,” Smith told Seagrove Garden Club members meeting at The Barclay in Santa Rosa Beach.
Smith, head floral designer at Artistic Designs Unlimited in Marianna, said he began to understand the power of flowers when he was just 12 years old, growing up in the Florida panhandle. Today, Smith teaches floral design and enjoys participating and judging professional floral competitions. Basically, Smith lives and breathes floral design and loves educating all who will listen, from beginners to seasoned experts.
