Wellness & Prevention Center Helping South Orange County youth & families lead healthier lives

https://linktr.ee/WellnessAndPreventionCenter WHAT DO WE DO?

Work to create a healthier, happier San Clemente. When we live in a culture with a relaxed attitude toward drug and alcohol use, and which doesn’t openly discuss mental health issues, it can be difficult for teens and parents to get the resources they need to live healthy, productive, drug-free lives. Knowing the struggles San Clemente families face, community members came together with the goal t

o educate and provide services for parents and youth about substance abuse and mental health. That’s how our organization, the Wellness & Prevention Center, San Clemente, was formed. SCHOOL CAMPUS
Since teens spend the majority of their days in school, we are on campuses throughout San Clemente, providing educational events on substance abuse and counseling services to make the greatest impact on their lives. EDUCATION
We educate teens about wellness, substance abuse and how to make healthy decisions. Parents and teens attend our educational events to learn from experts about drug use and how it affects their health and community. We provide information on healthy living and discuss issues teens face through flyers, school packets, weekly newsletters and a column in the San Clemente Times. COMMUNITY
We work with local organizations to develop a wellness approach to health and ask for community-wide pledges from families to commit to healthy behaviors. Through awareness campaigns and educational events, we strengthen the well-being of the entire community. PREVENTION
We work to reduce the use of alcohol, illicit drugs and prescription medications. We teach teens and parents about the science of drug addiction and how it affects their brain and behavior. We also work directly with the business community by discussing how they too can help reduce alcohol and drug use in San Clemente. COUNSELING
We provide safe places for students to discuss their problems and work with them to discover positive solutions. We provide services and resources for teens and parents to understand and get treatment for substance abuse, depression, anxiety, chronic stress and suicidal thoughts. SOCIAL
We provide activities for teens to have fun together without the use of drugs and alcohol. We support the local San Clemente Social Club (SC2) and Link Crew to strengthen our youths’ connections to their schools, family, peers and community.

Last week we hosted our annual Coalition Appreciation Lunch to celebrate the people making our community a safer and healthier. We were proud to honor our community partners and youth, including those from the Strength in Numbers club at San Clemente High School, for their incredible impact and dedication to the mission of the coalition.

A huge thank you to the The Noble Path Foundation for hosting our event and to all our coalition partners, volunteers, and student advocates for showing up and doing the work every day! 🙌💙

Because of partners like them, the Wellness & Prevention Center can keep creating safe spaces, expanding access to mental health prevention and early intervention services, and supporting South Orange County youth every step of the way. 💙

Last month, Wellness & Prevention Center Executive Director Susan Parmelee was recognized by Mike Levin as his March 2026 Constituent of the Month. This recognition reflects Susan’s unwavering dedication to supporting youth, families, and access to mental health care throughout our community.

In the words of Rep. Levin:

“At a time when so many of our youth are struggling with anxiety and depression, she created a place where they don't have to struggle alone. The Wellness & Prevention Center provides a safe and welcoming space for young people and their families to turn to when they need support most. The Center offers peer support, clinical training, policy advocacy, community education, and so much more. It is truly remarkable work…”

We are incredibly proud of Susan’s leadership and grateful for the continued recognition of the importance of youth mental health, prevention, and community care.

Wrapping up our last Wellness Wednesday of the year with 🌼💛

We spent wolverine time planting zinnias, giving students a chance to decorate their own pots and plant seeds to take home.

A small reminder that growth takes time, care, and patience… just like us 🌱

March is Self-Harm Awareness Month 💚

The stats are more than numbers, they represent real people, real pain, and real stories that deserve compassion.

By increasing awareness, we reduce stigma. By talking about it, we create space for healing. And by checking in with one another, we remind people they’re not alone.

If you or someone you know is struggling, support is available. You are never a burden for asking for help. 💚

This is who...

Before they were social workers, they were kids with big hearts and big dreams.

Today, those hearts advocate for change, mental health services, and create safe spaces.

Happy Social Work Day to the people behind the care. 💙
