Huge thanks to all 53 volunteers who joined us at the Quarry Creek Preserve for the Creek to Bay clean up! All together we removed over 450 lbs. of trash, 60 lbs. of recyclables, and 30,000 sq. ft. of invasives including garden nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus), Virginia creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia), shortpod mustard (Hirschfeldia incana), castor bean (Ricinus communis), and fan palm (Washingtonia robusta). After 5 years of twice annual clean ups with , this preserve is looking better than ever! And special thanks to the City of for hosting an extra clean up at Quarry Creek this year!

Community volunteers joined SDHC to plant a few dozen coast live oak seedlings within and along the perimeter of the Eureka Springs Preserve in Escondido. These future trees were donated by Jim Crouch from Re-Oak California with the goal of increasing coverage by this keystone plant species. A huge thanks to neighboring resident Brian Crolls for coordinating this effort and to all the volunteers that came out to help!

Cattle grazing has commenced at the Ramona Grasslands Preserve! SDHC has been collaborating with the San Diego Management and Monitoring Program (SDMMP), the UC Berkeley Grazing Ecology program, and Rangeland Conservation Science for this research project within our preserve. This study will compare grazed vs. ungrazed lands to determine how cattle grazing affects a variety of habitat types and functions. We hope this research will help guide similar conservation and grazing efforts in the future!
