Project Cathedral

Project Cathedral Existed from January 2000 - Summer 2003 Originally conceived and founded by DJ Gage, Teena Diggs, and Xavier Vasquez in the Summer of 1999. Paul's Cathedral.

Project Cathedral had it's first monthly event on January 23, 2000. It was produced by Techtonic Productions, Accretions Records, Merge Life & Music, and St. Each event consisted of musicians, bands, choreographers, dancers and curators from the San Diego area, and some from other parts of the US. Each evening started with a loop produced by a selected musician or band, that was played back throug

h the PA system. From that moment on the dancers and musiciians would improvise or perform to choreography or written music for 15 - 20 minutes each, towards the end of each section of time the next group of dancers and or musicians would overlap those by mixing themselves in to the overall choreography or sound, (musicians with the help of the sound engineer). This would continue for 5 hours. The enviroment inside the Great Hall was transformed each event with visual projects by Kinetic Collage and the resident curator for that evening.

In Brian Eno's work can we find a sensibility that relates to object oriented ontology?

Towards the Possibility of Ambient Art as a Tool for Post-Human Pedagogy

Brian Eno's concept of ambient music blurs the lines between human creativity and non-human processes by incorporating chance, multiple time signatures through layered audio looping, and unconventional field recordings that exist outside traditional human musical scales. This approach gives rise to creations that take on a life of their own, exhibiting a form of quasi-autopoiesis. The complexity of these creations emerges from what might be termed 'unintentional design,' where the outcome is not strictly determined by human intention, thereby challenging notions of human exceptionalism. Eno's methods often explore complex systems and networks, reflecting post-humanist interests in distributed systems and interconnectedness. As a result, the boundaries between subject and object become blurred, and art transforms from a spectacle to be viewed to an environment to inhabit or coexist with.

By extending Eno's approach to music into the arts more broadly – as he has indeed done through his work in film and sculpture – we can create an art program that translates abstract post-humanist concepts into tangible, lived experiences. This approach would give students a firsthand experience in creating collaborative environments, allowing them to embody post-humanist principles in a practical and immersive way.

“How do we bring the living world into the world of dance? How do we bring non-human lives into human bodies? It is this paradox that the choreographer Jérôme Bel and the art historian Estelle Zhong Mengual invite us to explore. Through several selected pieces belonging to the repertoire of Western art dance, they question the different strategies invented by choreographers to tackle the seemingly impossible challenge of becoming bodies other than our own: plants, animals, natural elements.

Most of these ancient dances are shown from our present time: that of the ecological crisis. This performance proposes to experience in vivo the relationships that choreographers have created with the living world, and thus to enrich our forms of sensitivity towards it, to dig a little deeper into its central place in our common world.”

Title: The things you can see only when you slow down

"Things You Can Only See When You Slow Down" is a book by Haemin Sunim, a Buddhist monk and teacher. The book offers insights and lessons on living a more mindful and fulfilling life. Here are some key takeaways:

1. *Slow down to appreciate life*: In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to overlook the beauty and wonder around us. Slowing down helps us appreciate the little things and find joy in everyday moments.

2. *Be present in the moment*: Mindfulness is about being fully engaged in the present moment, without distractions or multitasking. This helps us connect with ourselves, others, and the world around us.

3. *Let go of distractions*: Our lives are filled with distractions, from social media to constant notifications. Letting go of these distractions allows us to focus on what truly matters.

4. *Cultivate gratitude*: Focusing on what we're grateful for, rather than what's lacking, helps us find contentment and happiness.

5. *Embrace imperfection*: Nobody is perfect, and that's okay. Embracing our imperfections and those of others helps us develop compassion and understanding.

6. *Practice self-care*: Taking care of our physical, emotional, and mental well-being is essential for living a happy, healthy life.

7. *Connect with others*: Building meaningful relationships and connections with others brings joy and support to our lives.

8. *Find meaning and purpose*: Reflecting on our values and passions helps us discover our purpose and direction in life.

9. *Embrace change and uncertainty*: Life is unpredictable, and change is inevitable. Learning to adapt and find comfort in uncertainty helps us grow and evolve.

10. *Practice mindfulness and meditation*: Regular mindfulness practice helps calm the mind, reduce stress, and increase self-awareness.

By applying these lessons, we can lead more intentional, compassionate, and fulfilling lives.
