What an awesome day celebrating our incredible PBE/FOPBE volunteers! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿง

We started the morning with our annual Volunteer Breakfast at school โ€” a small way to show our huge appreciation for the countless hours, energy, and love our volunteers pour into PBE all year long. From classrooms and events to field trips and fundraisers, our school community is stronger because of you!

We wrapped up the day celebrating together at our FOPBE End-of-Year Celebration at Mavericks โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŽ‰

Thank you to every volunteer, family member, and supporter who helps make PBE such a special place for our students and staff. We truly couldnโ€™t do it without you! ๐Ÿ’ซ

Yesterday's PBEโ€™s TK Bay Day was one for the books! โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸšŒ๐ŸŒŠ One of the biggest highlights? Our TKers experienced their very first bus ride together โ€” and the excitement was unforgettable!

From fun in the sun to pizza and cupcakes with friends, our little learners had the best day celebrating all of their hard work this year. They played hard because they worked hard! โ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿ’›

PBEโ€™s student-scientists wrapped up the school year with an incredible final session of San Diego Youth Science ๐Ÿ”ฌ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒŠ exploring one of San Diegoโ€™s most important local ecosystems: the Kendall-Frost Marsh Reserve on Mission Bay. This rare and protected wetland became a living laboratory where students investigated the critical role marshes play in protecting our coastline from sea-level rise, improving water quality, and providing habitat for diverse and endangered species ๐Ÿš๐Ÿฆ€๐ŸŸ

Our 3rdโ€“5th grade students conducted authentic field research alongside Mission Bay High School science mentors ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ, rotating through hands-on field stations to collect water quality data, extract sediment cores, study benthic organisms, and observe how species diversity changes throughout the marsh ecosystem. Students also explored water chemistry and toxicology to better understand how tides and human activity impact this dynamic watershed ๐Ÿ’ง๐Ÿงช

Meanwhile, our TKโ€“2nd grade scientists brought the marsh into the classroom through hands-on investigations using field-collected samples ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ” Students explored mud cores, identified and classified local invertebrates, and discovered the amazing adaptations that help organisms survive in the ever-changing salt marsh environment ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿชธ

What an inspiring way to close out a year of curiosity, discovery, and scientific exploration at PBE! ๐Ÿ’™

As we continue to wrap up another amazing year at PBE, weโ€™re celebrating our final Penguin Picks of the Month! ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿง

PBE 3rd grader Olivia, has our final student pick of the school year. She is recommending the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series by Rick Riordan, specifically Book One, The Lightning Thief. Olivia reports that this book is full of exciting twists and turns that keep readers hooked from beginning to end. She says so much happens throughout the story, making it a long but really good book for readers who love adventure and action! โšก

This monthโ€™s featured picture book is Six-Dinner Sid, the hilarious story of a clever cat who convinces six different families that he belongs to themโ€ฆ all for extra dinners! ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ๐Ÿฑ Our librarian, Mrs. Busboom, shared that the book recently reminded her of a neighborhood ginger tabby who visits daily and somehow has a different name at every house โ€” Frank, Carrot, Buttercupโ€ฆ maybe even Four-Dinner Frank! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Don't forget that if they haven't already, every student will get to choose a donated book to keep during library time this week. ๐Ÿ“š

๐Ÿ“– All library books and fines should be returned this week as we celebrate our final week in the library for the school year.

โ˜€๏ธ The PB Public Library childrenโ€™s librarian will visit PBE on May 19th to share information about the Summer Reading Program filled with prizes and fun summer activities!

Thank you for a wonderful year of reading adventures, Penguin readers! Happy Summer Reading! ๐Ÿ’™

Big things are happening at PBE! โœจ

Our PBE students in grades Kโ€“5 had the incredible opportunity to share their Leadership Notebooks with Arielle and Mitzi Merino, Area Superintendent, and we could not have been more impressed! From goal setting and self-reflection to confident communication, our students showcased remarkable leadership skills, thoughtful insights, and impressive intellectual speaking. We are so proud of the growth, confidence, and leadership our students continue to demonstrate each day! ๐Ÿ’™

Meanwhile, our fifth grade students are soaking in their final days of elementary school and enjoying their last weeks with the Oasis โ€” a special space just for fifth graders to relax, recharge, and connect during recess. They have also been hard at work practicing their promotion song as they prepare for this exciting milestone. ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽ“

What an incredible year for PBEโ€™s Jogging Club! ๐Ÿ‘Ÿโœจ

We wrapped up the season with such a fun final Jogging Club last Friday, celebrating all of the hard work, energy, and dedication our students showed throughout the year.

This morning, we were also excited to recognize so many of our amazing participants during our Jogging Club Awards celebration. Congratulations to all of the students for their incredible accomplishments! ๐Ÿ…

We are so proud of the effort, determination, and positive energy our students brought week after week. Every lap, every early morning, and every step taken together made this year such a success!

A very special THANK YOU to Katy and Ana for leading the club and doing such a fantastic job keeping everyone motivated, active, and moving all year long. Your dedication made such a meaningful impact on our PBE jogging community.

We also want to recognize all of the parents and students who showed up bright and early and participated with so much enthusiasm and energy! Your commitment and support helped make Jogging Club such a fun and successful experience for everyone! ๐Ÿ’™

Way to go, PBE! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

What an unforgettable experience in the PBE Garden! ๐ŸŒฟโœจ

This past week, a lucky group of students enjoyed our incredible Farm-to-Table Garden Experience, one of the amazing live auction items from this yearโ€™s Annual Auction Fundraiser event.

Our student winner, Chance, was able to invite some of his friends to participate in the Chance Cafรฉ. Set in the heart of our very own school garden, students harvested fresh seasonal ingredients straight from the garden, worked together to prepare a delicious multi-course meal, and gathered around the table to enjoy the fruits of their labor.

More than just a meal, this hands-on experience celebrated community, creativity, teamwork, and the connection between growing food and sharing it together. From garden to table, every moment was filled with joy, learning, and unforgettable memories. ๐Ÿ…๐Ÿฅ•๐ŸŒผ

A huge thank you to PBE parent Erin Francis, who created this opportunity and made this such a special and unique experience for our students and school community! ๐Ÿ’š
