In 2018, Power of Preservation acquired the Kelso House, a circa 1906 grand house in the Monte Vista Historic District, a via generous donation. Since then, the Power of Preservation has collaborated with the City of San Antonio Office of Historic Preservation, The University of Texas at San Antonio, and other local colleges, trades experts, local contractors, and the community to establish the Ke

lso House Learning Lab with the mission of expanding trades knowledge in San Antonio. The Kelso House Learning Lab initiative aims to use the rehabilitation the structure as a learning lab to proactively address the need for the next generation of craftspeople trained in preservation technology in San Antonio. The joint vision of The Power of Preservation Foundation and the City’s Office of Historic Preservation is that the Kelso House will be the first of several learning labs that will be created throughout the city to serve multiple neighborhoods; ultimately, establishing a formal trades academy in a model that promotes preservation with a service mindset. The restored house will be a testament to hands-on learning and sustainable building practices. Join us in our mission by attending our events, donating to our cause, and joining our coalition!

Preservation work lives at the intersection of history, labor, and community. At Power of Preservation, we believe meaningful impact happens when preservation is done with people, not just for buildings.
