Date and Time: June 29, 2026, at 7:00 PM

As we commemorate America’s 250th Anniversary, it is a great time to celebrate the rich natural heritage of our indigenous (native) plants and their role in supporting both our historical and current-day cultures. We’ll learn how these critically important plants work to preserve a healthy ecosystem and why they face challenges in modern day. We’ll also learn about some species introduced by early colonists that have become naturalized in our environment.

Pam holds advanced certifications in Woody Plants, Urban Forestry, and Green Infrastructure Planning and Conservation. Pam’s yard near Schwenksville is a ‘Certified Pennsylvania Pollinator Friendly Garden’ and she is an educator for the Pollinator Pathways initiative with Master Gardeners.

Please bring a non-perishable item for the church's community outreach program. See you there!

Update to our request for HELP:
Thank you all who took the time and energy to delve into the “mystery” pictures we received. From the responses it seems that the photographs depict the Lessig bungalow and land parcels along the Perkiomen Creek at the end of Cedar Road by the trail on the other side of Spring Mountain. The stone house entitled Timberline Lodge still exists. This home might have been once owned by Solomon Grimley, who established an amusement park on Spring Mountain (then known as Stone Hill) in the late 1800’s. And we found that they were donated to the historical society by Louise Capaldi. A very nice addition to our collection.
We truly appreciate the wonderful people who help us preserve the very rich history of our area!

Thank you to everyone who came out to our annual Memorial Day tribute. With the help of members of the Support Our Troops Club at Souderton Area High School 112 flags were placed around the flagpole in Upper Salford Park. The names of the 112 veterans who lived in our township were read one at a time. Joanne Cowles and her grandsons rang a bell that was on loan from the Towamencin chapter of the DAR after each name was announced. We would like to thank Nick Chiarolanza for reading the names and Ryan Pongras for ending the evening with Taps. The flags will stay in the park, weather permitting, until Flag Day June 14. If you know someone who has served in any branch of our armed forces, has lived in our township and has passed away, please let us know and we will add that name to our list.

Join your Upper Salford neighbors when we will pay tribute to deceased residents who gave of themselves and their livelihoods in defending our nation’s liberty through service in the US Armed Forces. Together, it is worth remembering the blessings we enjoy because of those who gave so much.

The flags that will be placed around the Memorial Flagpole will remain (weather permitting) until Flag Day, June 14.

It will be a perfect way to end the holiday.

The April meeting of the Upper Salford Historical Society will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026, at 7:00 PM at the Old Goshenhoppen Church (2092 Church Road).
We are pleased to welcome Pastor Kevin Park of Old Goshenhoppen Reformed Church, who has been conducting extensive research into the history of the church and its pastors dating back nearly 300 years. He will share his findings and offer a glimpse into life in 1727, before the founding of our nation.
All are invited to join us in the sanctuary to hear these stories. For those who require assistance with stairs, a chair lift is available.
Additionally, we encourage attendees to bring a non-perishable item to support the Daily Bread Food Pantry.
We look forward to seeing you there.
Rev. Augustus Dechant (1862–1894)

A huge thank you to Emma Hartman for a very informative presentation on the free and enslaved people who were part of our area between 1767 and 1795. Our community history is full of stories that are amazing. Thanks to all who came, your questions and comments added to the night. Looking forward to our next meeting, April 27 at the Old Goshenhoppen Church - more about that later in April.

The Upper Salford Township Historical Society is very excited to begin the 2026 speaker series. Our first meeting will be Monday, March 23, 7pm at Tabor United Methodist Church located at 2209 Hendricks Station Road Woxall. Emma Hartman, the Guest Curator for the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, will present her research on the demographics of the Perkiomen Valley Region in the 18th century. Her research with the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center sought to tell a fuller story of who lived and worked in the region during the time of the American Revolution, specifically highlighting the stories of free and enslaved people of color living in the area. The talk will share highlights from her research and tips and tricks for researching underdocumented populations. She will specifically focus on telling the stories of the 14 people of color and 11 enslavers living in Upper Salford Township between 1767 and 1795 that she was able to identify through her research.
As always, we ask that you bring a non-perishable item for the church’s outreach program. Hope to see you there!
