Congratulations to Elise Bender and Memphis Haueter for being selected as the 2026 Bob Foran Community Service Award - Student of the Year recipients!👩🏼🎓👩🏻🎓
🙋🏼♀️ Background history on the award:
Bob Foran joined the Rotary Club of Canfield in 1978 and was a member in that club for 25 years before he passed away.
He was never a member of the Rotary Club of Salem but he was so impressed with our Pancake Day fundraiser that he worked every Pancake Day that he was able as well as all other Salem Rotary fundraisers.
Bob would “make up” his weekly Rotary meetings in Salem, and was in every sense of the word, an “honorary member” of the Rotary Club of Salem.
Bob passed away in December 2003 in Salem. The board of our club decided in January 2004 to honor his legacy with the following award: The Bob Foran Community Service Award - Student of the Month.
The first award was given in August 2003 and an award has been given every month during the academic year since. Later, a yearly winner was added for a $1,000 yearly scholarship in addition to the $50 monthly award.
Elise and Memphis are outstanding students, both recently graduated from Salem High School.
They are also both Interact Club members. Elise and Memphis have so much of themselves during their 4 years of high school to help Interact succeed. We are grateful for their dedication and commitment to Interact.
