Since this week is the Penn-Ohio State Line Classic All-Star Football Game, I wanted to share our family's experience through the years.

Jason was selected to play in this game in 1993 to represent South Range, he wore #74, even though his number was #75. He played this game under Artie Altomare. (I was there, but couldn’t find any pictures taken of him playing in the game, but I shared a picture of Caden sporting his jersey when the boys used to play football in our basement, him and Ty used to wear it.) He also coached for the game twice with Coach Johnson.

Tyson was selected to play in the game for 2020 to represent Salem, but this was during the pandemic, so the game was unfortunately canceled, but he still got his jersey. This game was going to be coached under Matt Altomare, the son of Artie Altomare who selected Jason to play. #8

Caden was a ball boy/water boy when Jason coached and was also selected to play for his senior year, 2023 to represent Salem. Coach Johnson was the head coach that year, so Caden had the honor of also having his dad be part of the coaching staff, and the game was also played at Sebo Stadium. #2

And last year this game fell on our wedding anniversary, and was being played at Salem….Jason wanted to go support his players, so we attended. When you are married to a coach…attending an all star football game on your wedding anniversary is acceptable. The weather that day was very chilly and felt like fall football. Sharing a few pictures from that as well.

Revisiting the most beautiful performance by the United Local High School Band, who wanted to dedicate a song to honor Jason at their concert back in March. The song, titled “Benediction,” means blessing. Their director, Nome Baker, had reached out to me, inviting me to attend. My sister, Holly, came along with me. We were both in tears from start to finish. There is no doubt that Jason would have been humbled by this. From their words spoken to the moment of silence to the actual performance, where the emotions were felt through sound….it was absolutely beautiful and heartfelt. Please have a listen. The United staff and students will never stop amazing me, their acts of kindness are a touching tribute to his legacy and will never go unnoticed by our family.

Sharing back to Jason’s high school playing days at South Range…..where lifetime bonds were made and his passion for football ran deep. Surrounded by amazing coaches he admired and amazing teammates he protected, where he made his mark.🏈💛 #75

Since football season is upon us, I wanted to share pictures from when our boys were ball boys and water boys. Some of the best memories and experiences they had with their dad and football began on that Quaker football field together, well before they became varsity players on that field. When Jason was hired at Salem to coach football, Tyson was entering seventh grade and Caden was entering fourth grade. Their journey with tackle football also began here. They were fortunate to be surrounded by some of the best role models – players they admired, coaches who cared for them and contributed to their growth….all while having their dad alongside, sharing the same love for football and making bonds to last a lifetime. These boys of ours were blessed to have the most amazing dad, always setting the utmost example for them and others both on and off the field.🏈🖤❤️

Where it all began….
Jason’s first teaching job out of college was in North Carolina, where he spent one school year. Around here jobs were so hard to come by, down South there was a shortage of teachers. A high school friend/teammate of his(John Toy) also got a teaching job down there and they lived together before both getting jobs back home. Jason had proposed to me before he moved there, I was finishing up my last year at YSU. He taught/coached there Fall 1998-Spring of 1999. He was the head football coach for junior high..and also coached baseball there. He returned home after that school year after being hired at United Local, and we got married June 19th,1999. I recently came across pictures from that time, and wanted to share them.🩵📚🏈⚾️

With full hearts, our family would like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported our efforts to establish the Jason Swiger Memorial Scholarship Fund. We are proud to share that, through the incredible generosity of Lutz Greenhouse, who donated three amazing raffle baskets valued at $500 each, we were able to launch our first fundraising event. We truly cannot thank you enough. Every dollar raised from those raffles went directly toward supporting the scholarship fund and honoring Jason's legacy. The amount raised through Lutz Greenhouse totaled $7,130. AMAZING….

We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to the Salem Community Foundation for providing us with the opportunity to establish this scholarship. We are also beyond grateful for the many private donations sent directly to the foundation. You all have made the biggest impression on our hearts.

Finally, thank you to the United Local and Salem Football families, our family and friends, Lutz customers, as well as others who have supported our cause….thanks for believing in us and helping make this possible. Your encouragement, generosity, and support mean more to our family than words can express. Your kindness will help us impact young lives while honoring and carrying forward Jason’s profound legacy.

Jason….also known as Coach Swigs, had the privilege of coaching, mentoring, and motivating some of the most well-rounded athletes. The bond between a coach and player is unparalleled. He shared the same love because he was once in their shoes. I'm certain most coaches can relate to that, and that's why they do what they do. He made it clear to his players that he would be there for them not only on the field and on the sidelines but also in life, well beyond football. He cared for them as his own.🏈🖤❤️

Thought it would be neat to turn back time... back when we chaperoned the junior high trips to Washington, D.C. and Canada with Jason's United Local students. He adored his students from the beginning and always connected with them. These were some fun times. One of Jason's best friends from college, Todd Huda, who also taught at United also shared in the experience with us, as he too chaperoned. I'm inspired to share these old pictures today, as our oldest son is in D.C. chaperoning his 8th-grade students for West Branch. Back when we went, there were no cameras in cell phones. I have always enjoyed capturing the moments. Times sure have changed since then. I'm sharing just a few taken from both trips. We’ve had the privilege of watching many of these young students grow into amazing adults…..💙💛
