What began as a rough sketch on an envelope became something far more meaningful at Saint Therese of Corcoran.

Resident John Wallin had the idea. Fellow resident Guido Leutem turned that vision into a detailed design. Then, with the skills, persistence and support of several others, they spent nearly a year creating a one-of-a-kind wooden monstrance for the community’s chapel.

The project encountered more than a few obstacles along the way. But it also brought residents together around a shared purpose and created something that will remain at Saint Therese of Corcoran for years to come.

Today marked the first Saint Therese “Red Shirt Day,” a new way for team members to spend time serving in our communities.

The Saint Therese Foundation team kicked off the initiative this morning at Saint Therese at St. Odilia, weeding gardens, uncovering flowers and sprucing up the grounds surrounding our eight-bedroom hospice and palliative care home in Shoreview. They were joined by Nolay Freeman, DNP, hospice and palliative care director, and a few additional volunteers.

“We can do more than what we do in the office,” said Jen Bettencourt, vice president of Philanthropy. “It’s about amplifying the importance of our communities by giving our time and service.”

The morning was spearheaded by Michele Sahar, director of Volunteer Services and an avid gardener herself. Even six-year-old Sanne joined the effort, creating a special chalk message for residents: “You are loved.”

When memory or behavior begins to change, it can be hard to know when to be concerned or how to start the conversation.

At our recent Saint Therese Family Support Series, Sara Michel, speaking on behalf of the Alzheimer's Association Minnesota-North Dakota shared practical guidance for families navigating those questions.

One important takeaway: focus on specific changes you’ve noticed, choose a comfortable time and place to talk, and approach the conversation with concern rather than assumptions. There are many possible causes of changes in memory and thinking, which is why talking with a doctor is an important next step.

Sometimes starting the conversation is the hardest part. Having good information can help.

Our 21st Golf Classic is almost here, and we couldn’t be more excited!

Planning ahead can make difficult decisions a little easier for everyone involved.

At our recent Saint Therese Family Support Series, Mary Frances Price of Bravura Group P.C. shared an important reminder: a will is only one piece of a good legal plan. Documents such as a durable power of attorney and health care directive can help ensure someone you trust is able to act on your behalf and that your wishes are understood if you’re unable to speak for yourself.

Another good reminder: review your important documents every few years and after major life changes.

Work is underway at Saint Therese of Corcoran!

Following our Phase 2 groundbreaking earlier this summer, crews are now clearing the site for the next chapter of our growing community.

The expansion will add 31 new independent living apartments, along with new spaces designed for residents, families and friends to gather and connect. We’re excited to watch the new building take shape, with opening anticipated in 2027.

Exciting to see work underway with our project partners CBS Construction and Pope Design Group.
