We strive to connect groups and individuals to the pieces and processes involved in discovering the selection and preparation of fresh, healthy food. We empower seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, at risk youth and others with li

Food access is disability access.

Throughout August, we've explored the many ways disability and food justice intersect.

As we head into Hunger Action Month, we invite you to think beyond food donations alone.

Ask yourself:
• Is my local food pantry accessible?
• Are community meals welcoming to everyone?
• Who is missing from conversations about hunger?
• How can I help remove barriers—not just provide food?

Together, we can build communities where everyone has equitable access to healthy food, accessible kitchens, and the opportunity to thrive.

Because food justice includes everyone.

Cooking isn't just about making a meal.

It's about confidence.
Choice.
Culture.
Connection.
Independence.

When disabled people have accessible kitchens, adaptive tools, and practical cooking education, they're better equipped to make the foods that matter to them.

Food justice means everyone deserves that opportunity. We can't wait to share more about this topic during Hunger Action Month in September!

SNAP time limits, often referred to as work requirements, restrict able-bodied adults without dependents (ABAWDs) to just three months of benefits in a three‑year period unless they meet strict 20-hour-per-week work reporting requirements or qualify for an exemption. Where you live shouldn't determine whether you can eat well. Rural communities matter.

Many rural communities experience:
• Long distances to grocery stores
• Limited public transportation
• Fewer disability services
• Limited grocery delivery
• Higher food costs

When disability and geography intersect, barriers multiply.

Creating equitable food systems means designing solutions that work everywhere—not just in cities.

Accessibility Belongs in EVERY Kitchen! Going into Hunger Action Month next month, Kelly's Kitchen wants to remind you that an accessible kitchen isn't a luxury.

It's independence.

Simple tools can make a world of difference:
• Easy-grip utensils
• Adaptive cutting boards
• Jar openers
• Lightweight cookware
• Induction cooktops
• Rocker knives

These aren't specialty items.

They're tools that allow more people to cook confidently and safely.

Accessibility benefits everyone.

Every eligible person who loses SNAP benefits is one more family facing unnecessary barriers to food. States have a role to play in making sure eligible people can access and keep the benefits they qualify for. https://secure.everyaction.com/76ItkRZL70ae1ApG7NWaVQ2
