We had our new friends from last night's Turtle Talk join us on patrol this morning! They were able to observe the process as we located and protected today's new nest. There was no other activity on the beach today.

We'd like to thank our new friends for supporting our sea turtle conservation work and purchasing our official t-shirts. They look great! If you'd like to get an official HISTP T-shirt, please email [email protected].

Just one U-Turn at the wrack line...BUT...Beach Boss Barb had a strong instinct that one of yesterday's "false crawls" was a nest, so an investigation was launched. Jan came up with the clutch, which was VERY deep, and the team was able to cage the site to protect the nest. That's what we ♥️ about our program - the best volunteers & TEAMWORK!

Happy Father's Day! After taking a day off, the turtles returned to our slice of paradise with two new nests and three Non-nesting emergences. We don't have a photo of all the volunteers on the beach this morning, but we appreciate each of them immensely!

Please spread the word and be a part of seaturt survival!

Beachgoers can significantly increase sea turtle survival rates by keeping the beach clean, dark and flat. Remove all personal items (chairs, umbrellas, toys) before leaving the beach, as these obstacles can trap adult turtles or prevent hatchlings from reaching the ocean. Artificial lighting from flashlights, cell phones, camera flashes, or beachfront properties causes disorientation, leading turtles inland where they face dehydration, predation, or vehicle traffic. Deep holes and large sandcastles act as traps for tiny hatchlings and barriers for adult females, who cannot walk in reverse.

Our volunteers are ROCKSTARS! ⭐ They show up (and sometimes show out 😉) every single day to ensure every inch of our beach is patrolled, every nest is checked, and litter is picked up and recorded. They've earned this quiet morning with a gentle breeze and great company. Happy Saturday Y'all!

Batting .500 today, which is good in ⚾! Two nests and two false crawls as our team worked quick, fast, and in a hurry in order to beat the squall line from Arthur which was predicted to be on top of us at 0800. So grateful for dedicated volunteers who are willing to brave the weather, bugs, and heat!
