THE DAY LIGHT BROKE THE DARK

A Long, Lyrical, Song‑Like Easter Poem Inspired by Psalm 118

Before the dawn awoke the sky,
Before the sparrow learned to fly,
The world lay still in shadow’s keep,
A trembling hush, a waiting deep.
The stone stood guard in silent dread,
A monument to what was dead—
But heaven’s heart was beating near,
A holy thunder we could not hear.

A whisper stirred the sleeping air,
A breath of glory everywhere.
Creation leaned toward the tomb,
Expecting light to break the gloom.

“This is the day the Lord has made,”
Let every trembling soul be brave.
The stone rolled back, the night withdrew,
And life stepped out in morning dew.
Lift up your voice, let praises rise—
For Christ has opened paradise.
Oh sing, oh sing forevermore:
His love endures forever.

The earth shook loose its ancient fear,
As angels bowed and drew near.
Light poured out like rivers gold,
A story too divine to hold.
He rose in robes of living flame,
The Lamb once slain, now King by name.
His wounds became a shining sign,
Love’s victory written in design.

The gates of righteousness swung wide,
Mercy rushed in like a tide.
Death stumbled back, undone, unmade—
Its power broken, its shadow frayed.

“This is the day the Lord has made,”
Let every weary heart be saved.
The grave gave way to heaven’s roar,
And hope walked out forevermore.
Lift up your hands, let worship soar—
For Christ is risen, Christ is Lord.
Oh sing, oh sing forevermore:
His love endures forever.

Let mountains echo, valleys ring,
Let oceans rise with offering.
Let every nation, every shore
Declare the truth forevermore:
The Light has come, the dark has fled,
The Firstborn risen from the dead.
No chain remains, no night survives
Where resurrection breathes and thrives.

This is the day the Lord has made,
Let all creation join the praise.
From age to age His mercy flows,
A river no horizon knows.
Lift up your soul, let faith ignite—
For Christ has turned the grave to light.
Oh sing, oh sing forevermore:
His love endures forever.

Forever in the risen King,
Forever let the whole earth sing.
The dawn that broke the world anew
Still breaks the darkness now in you.
So rise, beloved, rise and see
The glory of eternity—
For Love has won, and death is done,
And morning shines with victory won.
He has risen rise with him for his our salvation from sinning.

“The Weight We Carry” psalms 13

We wake with quiet storms inside,
No thunder heard, no place to hide,
Just restless thoughts that twist and turn,
And lessons we are slow to learn.
The morning light feels sharp and bare,
It finds the wounds that are still open there,
Names we whisper into the air,
When we speak to you lord within our prayer
As if the losses are standing near,
Hiding in our hearts with the face of loss, addiction, depression and fear.
Grief is a room that does not close,
A chair that no one else can own,
A voice once warm, now turned to space,
An echo time cannot erase.
We carry them in all we do,
In every breath that pulls us through,
In empty seats and quiet calls,
In memories that line the walls.
And in that ache, a hunger grows,
A need to quiet what we know,
So we reach out with shaking hands
For borrowed peace that never stands.
A bottle, pill, a fleeting high,
A numbing truth we choose to buy,
It whispers, “Rest, forget, be still,”
But steals a little more of our will.
We fall, we swear this is the last,
We try to outrun what is in the past.
Yet chains we swore we’d leave behind
Return in body, heart, and mind.
The mirror tells a harsher tale,
Of promises that slowly fail,
Of eyes that once were clear and wide,
Now dimmed by wars we fight inside.
Some nights we sink so far below,
We fear there’s nowhere left to go,
Where even prayer feels locked away,
And heaven seems too far to stay.
We speak to God in broken speech,
Unsure if we are out of reach,
If mercy bends this far down low,
To meet a soul that lost its way.
But in the silence, faint and deep,
A presence stirs we cannot keep
From brushing soft echoes against the pain—
A whisper calling out our name.
Not loud, not fierce, not wrapped in flame,
But steady as a quiet claim:
“You’re not beyond what love can mend,
This is not where your story ends.”
It finds us in the darkest place,
Not turning from our fractured state,
But sitting in the wreck we made,
Unmoved by all we’re still afraid.
So we rise slowly, not at once,
With trembling steps and fragile trust,
We fall again, yet still we stand,
Each time held by an unseen hand.
And loss remains—it always will,
A sacred ache, a presence still,
But now it walks a different way,
Not just in night, but through the day.
We learn that faith is not the sight
Of endless strength or constant light,
But choosing hope when none is near,
And speaking truth through all the fear.
So we endure, though worn and scarred,
Each breath we take is battle-hard,
Yet in the breaking, something stays—
A stubborn, grace-fills your will to rise.
For in the weight we thought would crush,
There grows a strength beneath the hush,
A quiet fire, refined through pain—
A soul that dares to live again.
The strength that follows we ask for in to stay so bow your and Jesus name we pray. Amen Alex Mejia
