THE DAY LIGHT BROKE THE DARK
A Long, Lyrical, Song‑Like Easter Poem Inspired by Psalm 118
Before the dawn awoke the sky,
Before the sparrow learned to fly,
The world lay still in shadow’s keep,
A trembling hush, a waiting deep.
The stone stood guard in silent dread,
A monument to what was dead—
But heaven’s heart was beating near,
A holy thunder we could not hear.
A whisper stirred the sleeping air,
A breath of glory everywhere.
Creation leaned toward the tomb,
Expecting light to break the gloom.
“This is the day the Lord has made,”
Let every trembling soul be brave.
The stone rolled back, the night withdrew,
And life stepped out in morning dew.
Lift up your voice, let praises rise—
For Christ has opened paradise.
Oh sing, oh sing forevermore:
His love endures forever.
The earth shook loose its ancient fear,
As angels bowed and drew near.
Light poured out like rivers gold,
A story too divine to hold.
He rose in robes of living flame,
The Lamb once slain, now King by name.
His wounds became a shining sign,
Love’s victory written in design.
The gates of righteousness swung wide,
Mercy rushed in like a tide.
Death stumbled back, undone, unmade—
Its power broken, its shadow frayed.
“This is the day the Lord has made,”
Let every weary heart be saved.
The grave gave way to heaven’s roar,
And hope walked out forevermore.
Lift up your hands, let worship soar—
For Christ is risen, Christ is Lord.
Oh sing, oh sing forevermore:
His love endures forever.
Let mountains echo, valleys ring,
Let oceans rise with offering.
Let every nation, every shore
Declare the truth forevermore:
The Light has come, the dark has fled,
The Firstborn risen from the dead.
No chain remains, no night survives
Where resurrection breathes and thrives.
This is the day the Lord has made,
Let all creation join the praise.
From age to age His mercy flows,
A river no horizon knows.
Lift up your soul, let faith ignite—
For Christ has turned the grave to light.
Oh sing, oh sing forevermore:
His love endures forever.
Forever in the risen King,
Forever let the whole earth sing.
The dawn that broke the world anew
Still breaks the darkness now in you.
So rise, beloved, rise and see
The glory of eternity—
For Love has won, and death is done,
And morning shines with victory won.
He has risen rise with him for his our salvation from sinning.
