𝗜𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗺: 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗞𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗻 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗞𝗮𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿
October 23, 1970 – April 27, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that IBEW Local Union 160 shares the passing of Brother Kevin John Kaeter—a dedicated leader, a respected tradesman, and a man who gave his working life to the brotherhood and the trade.

Kevin was initiated into Local 160 on October 7, 1993, as a Groundman under the Missouri Valley Contract. He was indentured as an Apprentice Lineman in 1995 and earned his Journeyman Lineman status in September of 2000. From the beginning, he approached the work with discipline, resolve, and a deep respect for the responsibility it carried.

He served this Local with consistency and conviction. Kevin was a Union Steward for both the Missouri Valley and Metro West Overhead sections, standing firm for the members he represented. He was elected to the Executive Board in 2014 and again in 2017, and in 2020, he was elected President of Local 160—a role he carried with focus, steadiness, and a strong sense of duty.

Kevin built a 23-year career with Xcel Energy, becoming a Metro West Troubleman in 2011. He was known for his reliability, his knowledge, and his willingness to step in when it mattered most. He took the work seriously—and he took care of the people alongside him.

As President, Kevin believed the strength of the Local came from its members. He encouraged participation, expected accountability, and never lost sight of the responsibility to represent the voice of the membership. He understood that safety, unity, and communication were not just ideals—they were essential to the health of the brotherhood and the future of the trade.

He was deeply devoted to his family—they were the joy of his life.

Beyond the job, Kevin was a man who showed up for people—his family, his friends, and anyone who needed a steady hand. That same sense of loyalty and care defined who he was in every part of his life.

Outside of work, Kevin found his time in the outdoors—on the water, on the ice, or in the woods—where he was most at ease. He was also a devoted Minnesota Wild fan, known for bringing his voice, his humor, and his presence wherever he went.

𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐚𝐲

This isn’t a soft life.
It never was.

While the world sleeps in warm beds, linemen are throwing on boots, grabbing gear, and heading straight into hell. Storms, ice, darkness, wind, heat, mud, exhaustion—it doesn’t matter. When the power goes out, they go in.

Middle of the night.
Middle of dinner.
Middle of birthdays.
Middle of holidays.

The phone rings, and they’re gone.

This trade is hard on a man.

It’s torn shoulders. Bad backs. Burned skin. Cut hands. Knees that ache before their time. It’s waking up sore and doing it again anyway. It’s climbing steel and wood in conditions most people wouldn’t walk through.

It’s danger that never blinks.
One wrong move. One bad second. One mistake.

And still—they climb.

Miles from home. Weeks on the road. Missing first steps, ball games, anniversaries, and ordinary nights at the dinner table people take for granted. Carrying the weight so everyone else can keep living comfortably.

And somehow, they’re still overlooked.

Forgotten until the lights die. Until the furnace quits. Until the hospital needs power. Until businesses stop. Until the world realizes everything runs on what these men build, repair, and bleed for.

No power means no normal life.
No comfort.
No convenience.
No “business as usual.”

Linemen don’t do it for praise. They do it because somebody has to. Because when things fall apart, they’re the ones who go toward it.

To every lineman carrying the load, wearing down the body, sacrificing time with family, and showing up when nobody else will— Thank you.

You are respected and this country relies on you every single day.

IBEW Local 160 awards multiple scholarships each year to dependents of CURRENT members in good standing.

📅 Deadline: April 20

✅ The three Local 160 scholarship applications can be submitted online.

Here’s what’s available:

🔹 David C. Ring Scholarship 🔹
For Graduating High School Seniors – 8 Scholarships
• 4 × $1,500 (College/University)
• 4 × $1,500 (Vocational/Technical/Trade)

🔹 Amy O’Sullivan Scholarship 🔹
For Ongoing Education – 8 Scholarships
• 4 × $1,000 (College/University)
