What a great day at the 2026 North Star Lineman's Rodeo!

On Friday, June 12, IBEW Local 160 was honored to support this event and spend the day watching utility workers in put their skills on display.

With more than 40 electric teams and nearly a dozen gas teams competing throughout the day, the rodeo showcased the training, teamwork, professionalism, and dedication that keep our communities powered and our customers served. From Hurt Man Rescue and Speed Climb events to gas competitions testing precision and skill, every participant demonstrated the talent and expertise found throughout our industry.

Thank you to all of the competitors who stepped onto the field and put their skills to the test. Whether you brought home hardware or not, you helped showcase the work, training, and commitment that make this trade so respected.

A huge thank you to the sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and supporters whose contributions helped make this event possible. Events like the North Star Rodeo bring excitement to the trade, highlight career opportunities in the utility industry, and create a memorable experience for workers and their families.

Thank you to the families who spent the day cheering from the sidelines, supporting their loved ones, and sharing in the experience. Your encouragement and support play an important role in the success of the men and women who work in this industry every day.

Special thanks to Xcel Energy for bringing this outstanding event to Minnesota and creating an opportunity to celebrate the skilled workers who keep our energy systems running safely and reliably.

From the competition field and bucket trucks to the family activities, kids' events, and time spent with friends and coworkers, it was a fantastic day and a great reminder of the talent, teamwork, and camaraderie that make this industry so special.

Thank you to everyone who competed, volunteered, sponsored, attended, and cheered on the participants. We look forward to seeing this event continue to grow for years to come.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Brother Shawn Tibbs, an active member of IBEW Local 160 and employee of Xcel Energy.

Shawn passed away on June 3, 2026, at the age of 56.

Some people leave an impression. Shawn left a mark.

Larger than life, a hard worker, and the kind of guy you didn't forget once you met him, Shawn earned the respect of those around him through his work ethic, his character, and the way he carried himself every day.

He was a valued brother, coworker, and friend whose contributions to our industry and our union will not be forgotten. His passing is felt throughout the Local 160 family and by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at the Stanley County Fairgrounds in Fort Pierre, South Dakota. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., with burial to follow at Scotty Philip Cemetery.

On behalf of the officers, staff, and members of IBEW Local 160, we extend our sincere condolences to Shawn's family, friends, coworkers at Xcel Energy, and all who knew and loved him.

Please keep Shawn's loved ones in your thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.

Rest easy, Brother. Your work is done.
