As my tenure winds down, I guess it's time to reflect on my two year ride as Post Commander. And what a ride it's been!
We took smoking out of the building entirely. It has proved to be the right move, as membership, particularly families, has grown a LOT!
There were projects. The exterior got long deferred maintenance and a fresh coat of paint. Lighting was repaired. Security cameras installed. Attractive and functional shiny red shutters were hung. Roof a/c units were repaired and given a maintenance program. Some say they work too well now!
Our warped floor in the lounge was taken up and replaced with much better vinyl.
A company was hired to clean the venerable walk in cooler. The calcium stalactites are gone!
Behind the bar, floor pads were upgraded, a glass washer installed, and new taps for draft beer installed. Again, a maintenance schedule gets rid of 'draft headache' and provides a 37 degree frosted glass of beer. Mug chiller too!
A bunch of new, bigger tvs were installed. Most are now 65".
And our kitchen was completely upgraded. George Steger and a crew of the SAL saved us a bundle by doing the labor.
We are expanding our leased parking area.with a new agreement with CSX.
We must be broke, right? No. We gave checks to three Posts stricken by hurricanes last year. This year, the combined faction contributions to charities may exceed $200,000! On top of that, as the Term Year ends, the Legion fiscal reserves are fat as a Christmas goose!
So when you see an Officer, or just a volunteer working on an upcoming event, moping the floor, or taking out the trash, say "thank you." it's the only pay they get.
Again, thank you, Post 238, for the Honor and privilege of being Post Commander. WE had a hell of a ride!
For God and Country,
Bob Allen CMDR

Thanks to members of all factions at our Post for representing at Sylvan Abby Cemetery this morning, for the placing of flags on the graves of our departed heroes.
As for the Commander of the SAL, George Steger and myself, we joined one more time in the Post kitchen, for Commander's Breakfast. From 7 AM to 11, we toiled, preparing breakfast for dozens Members and guests. As departing Commanders, we can proudly claim no meals sent back, nobody transported to the ER because of our cooking the past year!
Tomorrow, bright and early, we will be rehearsing the Honor Guard for upcoming ceremonies, starting Monday with Memorial Day.
Things are compressing, as we come to the Installation of Officers, June 20, at 4:00 PM. But first, the Annual Convention in Orlando.
My 'Farewell Address' here next month, but I'll still be active, having taken my old position as Second Vice Commander again, as well as the District Judge Advocate appointment.
Until then, Forward!
For God and Country,
Bob Allen CMDR
