Congratulations to our own assistant director of musical expression, Lynette Murphy!

Ms. Murphy has dedicated 22 years to education, including four years at Ruston High School. She brings heart, energy, and a true love of music to RHS every day as she teaches Piano, Advanced Choir, Beginning Choir, and Music Appreciation. She also serves as a Prom Co-Coordinator, band chaperone, and proud .

She is passionate about helping students succeed and creating a space where every student feels welcomed, valued, and free to express themselves through music. Outside of school, Ms. Murphy enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, theatre, cooking, reading, cheering on LSU, and finding great food!

We are proud to recognize Ms. Murphy as our Teacher of the Week and appreciate all she does for the students and staff of Ruston High School.

It's been "Christmas in July" for us — and also in August — and soon to be September — as we prepare for our holiday performances. One of our new songs is "Christmastime Is Here" from "A Charlie Brown Christmas," and we're really enjoying learning that classic from 1965. Area women are welcome to visit a rehearsal and learn it along with us — and get a taste of some of the other music and fun Southern A'Chord has to offer. You might just decide you'd like to come back for more! 🎄🎶

Just a little advance warning for all you Butter Braid fans: Southern A’Chord will be selling Butter Braid pastries again in October! We'll get back with you concerning specific details, but we know how much you love this treat - so we thought we’d give you plenty of time to start thinking about biting into such luscious goodness. Save a little room in your freezer ... Butter Braids are coming! (Thanks to our own Lindsey Desidere for this great graphic!)

Happy, happy birthday to our August birthday ladies! We got to sing in person to lead Kim Gronewold at last week's rehearsal, and we're looking forward to seeing our newly minted doctor of optometry, Dr. Rebecca McNeill - who also has an August birthday - in a few weeks. Happy, happy, happy!!!

Congratulations to our own Rebekah Heiden on her outstanding performance in the recent Ruston Community Theatre production of "Guys and Dolls"! Several Southern A'Chord members attended performances throughout the run, and we loved cheering her on from the audience. Rebekah, your talent, dedication and stage presence shone brightly. We're delighted to call you our Sister in Song. Bravo!!!

We may not have had any chorus members' birthdays to celebrate this month, but we DID have a semiquincentennial birthday celebration for our country. Happy 250th birthday, America! We have several patriotic songs in our repertoire and look forward to presenting some special patriotic programs before year's end. Stay tuned for details.
