Why CarePortal matters...
A remarkable young man in Pope County recently aged out of foster care, secured a job, and took a courageous step toward independence by moving into his very first apartment. His dream wasn’t just to build a stable future for himself, it was to get on his feet so he could help support his younger sister. But as he stepped into this new chapter, he had very little to call his own beyond a few personal belongings and some clothing.
And now Careportal enters the story! Careportal brought the community together.
The local churches and community partners rallied around this young man to ensure he didn’t have to start from scratch. London First Baptist stepped forward to be the hands and feet of Jesus, responding with generosity, compassion, and practical support.
Through the faithful giving of their congregation, a donation from a member of Home Church , and assistance from the local nonprofit, Joseph's House of Russellville , this young man received a full-size bed with bedding, a couch, a table, a pillow, a microwave, and pantry staples to help him settle into his new home.
What an incredible picture of the Church in action. He woke up that morning with an empty apartment and very few possessions, but went to bed in a furnished home, surrounded by the tangible love and support of his community.
For the volunteers who helped deliver the items, the experience was about much more than furniture: “We loved getting to do the delivery because it let us connect with the people we were helping on a one-to-one basis. It allowed us to begin building relationships instead of being just a faceless group providing assistance to someone in need.” — First Baptist Church of London
The beauty of CarePortal is not simply about meeting needs, it’s about building relationships, restoring hope, and reminding people that they are not alone. Because of a caring community and the love of Christ put into action, one young man’s apartment is now a home, and his future is brighter.
