Happy for Gray Boy and Mary! 🐾

Gray Boy headed to his new home and new family this morning.

We're thankful this story has a happy ending. Thank you to everyone who offered support, encouragement, donations, and thoughtful discussion over the last few days. Because of this community, Gray Boy is safe, cared for, and starting his next chapter. ❤️

Please spay and neuter your pets and reach out to people when you're in need. We still have so many cats looking for a home to help them love and trust again. 💕

Gray Boy got some good news today. 🎉

His FIV/FeLV test was negative, and Dr. Carlisle at Parkway Animal Hospital said he was "unremarkable" from a health standpoint. After everything he's been through, that's a wonderful thing to hear. Mrs. Ashley cleaned up his wound, and he'll need some medication while he continues healing.

Thank you to Sayre, Steven, Christopher, Stacy 🧡, Mary, and our monthly donors Rachel, Will, Pam, Angela, Ashton, and Theresa. Because of you, Gray Boy has a full belly, a vet visit, and a safe place to land when he needed it most. Our bill was paid in full. 🙏

Next step: a forever home. ❤️ If you were the person who left Gray Boy with us, PLEASE consider reaching out anonymously (new email, facebook, through a friend). No judgment. We simply want to know his story and learn anything that might help us find the perfect home for him. He has applications for a home with dogs and other cats, and we have no idea if that would be best for him. It breaks my heart to think what would have happened if we had been away for days. 🥺

I did let him wander the office a bit this morning as we had a wonderful volunteer stop by last night to sweep and mop while we had a meeting.

If you think you could give him a better home (and name) please submit an application. Link in comments.

We're rooting for you, Gray Boy. ❤️

UPDATE: These kinds of attacks on small orgs is still something we need to bring awareness to, but I do want to say that he appologized after reviewing our financials from last year and even made a small donation. I genuinely respect when someone is willing to take a second look at a situation and change their perspective based on facts. That matters too.

Can we talk about comments like this?

Comments like these hurt small nonprofits like ours. We aren’t the ASPCA or Best Friends with six-figure salaries...although those organizations do important work and people working in animal welfare still deserve to feed their families, too.

CCSN is 100% volunteer-run. Nobody here is collecting salaries or getting rich off animal rescue. In reality, many of us spend our own money, time, gas, and energy helping animals and the people caring for them.

People are absolutely welcome to ask questions and look into where donations go. We believe in transparency and are happy to provide financial information to anyone who asks. Every dollar we bring in goes back into animal care, medical treatment, food, transport, spay/neuter, supplies, and community support.

This work is exhausting, emotional, and often heartbreaking. Public comments accusing small volunteer organizations of dishonesty without facts don’t just hurt feelings, they hurt the animals by discouraging donations, volunteers, fosters, and community support.

People SHOULD think carefully before donating. We encourage it. Support organizations that are transparent, accountable, and actively doing the work.

But please remember there are real human beings behind these organizations. Most of us are doing the best we can with very limited resources or support because we care deeply about this community and the animals in it.

The cat that was dumped needs to see a vet for a large wound on it's neck and we found out yesterday we have a roughly $500 bill at Parkway Animal Hospital. Until that bill is paid we can't take this cat THAT WAS DUMPED ON US in to see a vet.

Thank you for your concern, Steven and pushing me one step closer to walking away. - Jenn

If you dropped off this cat around 9pm last night at our HQ in Russellville please message us as soon as possible before we file a police report. We caught you on camera and our neighbors more than likely caught your license plate. You were driving a white truck by the way, in case you forgot what you were driving.

To add additional information, we are NOT a shelter. We aren't even supposed to have cats spending the night at our warehouse. We made a post recently about how we are both an animal and human services organization. If this person would have reached out to us, we could have possibly given them assistance or at least a direction.

We know people sometimes make desperate decisions when they feel out of options. But abandoning animals at our warehouse is not safe for the animal and is not sustainable for our organization.

Our warehouse is not staffed 24/7. Animals left outside may go unnoticed for hours or longer without food, water, litter access, temperature control, or medical attention. In this case, a cat was left overnight in a carrier in Arkansas heat and humidity with no guarantee anyone would arrive in time.

We also receive no background information when this happens. We don’t know:
• whether the cat is friendly or feral
• whether they are sick or injured
• whether they have exposed other animals to illness
• whether they are litterbox trained
• whether they are safe around children, dogs, or other cats
• whether they have ever received veterinary care

Every abandoned animal requires time, space, funding, medical care, quarantine planning, and foster placement. We are a volunteer-run organization already operating beyond our capacity, and we cannot safely absorb animals left at our property without communication or planning.

If you need help, please contact us first. We will always try to discuss humane and safe options when resources allow. But leaving animals at our warehouse cannot continue and will be reported to local authorities or animal control for the safety of the animals involved. If nothing else, just to find out more information and what services we can provide. That is why we are asking the person to reach out to us. We do NOT want to press charges, we want to help.

💔 Losing them is never easy. There is an unexplainable level of pain when they pass before finding their forever homes.

Thank you to River Valley Pet Cremation. Whether they are family, fosters, or ferals, they give the same level of compassion and care to every animal that comes through their doors. We are grateful to Casey and his family for the service they provide to our community. ❤️‍🩹

“Freddie was a very sweet foster girl who loved sitting in laps and soaking up affection. She passed away far too young after becoming seriously ill, and we later learned she was FeLV positive. While many FeLV cats can live long and happy lives, Freddie’s little body simply could not overcome the illness she was facing.

Every foster cat leaves a mark on your heart, and Freddie was no exception. We are grateful she experienced love, comfort, and kindness during her time with us.”

Help us Help YOU!

Before reaching out to a rescue or animal welfare organization asking for help rehoming pets, PLEASE post them on your personal page first and make the post PUBLIC.

One of the first things rescues do is go to your page so we can share the post and help network the animal. We constantly hear “I’ve tried everything,” but then there’s no public post, no pictures, no information, nothing shared locally. Your personal network matters. Friends, coworkers, family, and neighbors are often the fastest way to find a safe placement.

Also, please stop passing along unfixed cats and kittens. Rehoming unfixed animals without a plan just pushes the problem onto the next person and continues the cycle of unwanted litters.

If your pet or kittens are not fixed, please work on that BEFORE rehoming whenever possible. If cost is the issue, ask for help. There are programs, rescues, and resources that may be able to assist.

We also encourage people to use the Rehome program through Adopt a Pet as another safe networking option.

Rescues are overwhelmed everywhere. The more effort owners put in before reaching out, the better chance these animals have at finding good homes and not continuing the cycle.

Update: Thank you all so much!! I *think* we have a spot for everyone if all testing, conversations, and home visits go well. 🤞 If you read this and you're still interested, please submit an application or PM us. We won't have time for another post.

🚨 We need the community to show up right now. Three situations, all urgent.

🐾 BARN CATS - 48 HOURS
We have been trying to place these 5 cats for over two months. Two people reached out saying they had space, and then ghosted us. Now the clock has officially run out. Their current home is gone in 48 hours. They are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and ready to work. Barn, stable, warehouse, large property, we handle transport. If you have space and you mean it, please reach out today.

🍼 MOM + KITTENS
A family needs to rehome a mom cat and her kittens. We are looking for a foster or adopter who can take them together and keep this family intact.

🐱 SWEET STRAY- NEEDS A HOME
A cat was trapped for TNR and turned out to be completely friendly, not a feral, not a candidate for return. The person who trapped him has been dealing with a serious health situation and is unable to continue caring for him. This cat needs somewhere to go.

We are a small volunteer org and we are stretched thin. If you can help with any of these - foster, adopt, barn placement, or even just a share, it makes a real difference.

📩 DM us or comment below. Please share this post.
