What a spectacular view from the Orzech Ponds Trail! The changing leaves, rolling hills, and beautiful open landscape make this one of Roxbury's special places to visit.

Ready to explore? From the Orzech Preserve parking area off Botsford Hill Road, follow the Kress Family Trail for about ¼ mile, then take the trail on the right up through the woods to the upper field, where there are two ponds and sweeping views.

Protected by Roxbury Land Trust since 2002, the Orzech Preserve was once part of a family farm established in 1924.

Restoration work along the Kress Family Trail at the Orzech Preserve will be moving forward soon! During construction, the trail will temporarily close for the safety of visitors and work crews.

Thank you to our generous community, our Save Our Rail Trail campaign has made great progress—but we are still raising the funds needed to complete this important project.

Lights Out CT — Fall Bird Migration Is Underway.

Millions of birds are making their fall migration, and a simple action can help them travel more safely.

Why it matters: Bright nighttime lighting can disorient migrating birds, drawing them off course and increasing the risk of deadly window and building collisions.

How you can help: From now through mid-November, turn off non-essential outdoor and indoor lights between 11 PM and 6 AM. Small changes can make a meaningful difference for birds passing through Connecticut.

Online Reporting Form: As of August 2026, reports of SLF sightings are requested for Windham, Tolland, and Litchfield counties, and are optional for Hartford, Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties. You can report by taking a photo and using this SLF Reporting Form from the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station: https://portal.ct.gov/caes/plants-pest-info/spotted-lanternfly

Help reduce the spread by following all quarantine orders regarding the movement of plants, wood, and other materials.
