The Albiston Foundation is comprised of The Adaptive Outdoor Education Center and the Aphasia Center of Maine. It is a 501(c)(3).

Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for all people with disabilities through adaptive outdoor recreation and education! Extending a heartfelt thank you to Mascoma Bank for supporting the AOEC Mascoma Bank Nature Series! Mascoma Bank

Thanks to their generosity, we have been able to offer monthly nature education experiences to people of all ages and abilities, creating opportunities to explore the natural world, discover new interests, and learn alongside our community.

Together, the AOEC community has taken a trip through the stars with Northern Stars Planetarium, explored accessible trails with The Nature Conservancy in Maine and Maine Coast Heritage Trust , gone on wonderful adventures with The Ecology School at River Bend Farm , watched birds with Maine Audubon , experienced horticultural therapy with Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens , and even adventured within Chunk the humpback whale with Within the Whale , among many other unique experiences.

Thank you to all the amazing educators for always bringing the fun for all of these fantastic events!

Sibshops is BACK at the AOEC Brunswick!

Being a sibling is something special, and it helps to connect with kids who just get it! Sibshops is a fun, supportive place for siblings of children with disabilities to make friends and share experiences with others who understand what it’s like to be a sibling.

Sibshops runs concurrently with Horizons Afterschool, so the whole family is invited for an afternoon of AOEC fun!

Join us at our Trail-Or-Treat for some free Halloween fun for all ages and abilities! This event will feature arts and crafts, disability-friendly tables from local organizations, face painting, climbing on our rock wall, and more! Through the Horizons Climbing program, climbers are building skills, learning the importance of safety checks, challenging themselves to try something new, and celebrating progress along the way!

Some of our favorite moments are watching climbers, cheer each other on, sharing a laugh, and make new friends! 💛

The AOEC Brunswick was lucky enough to be visited by Toast, a miniature therapy horse from the amazing Impact Horse Impact Horse - Connecting Humans and Horses ! We had an amazing morning learning about Toast’s important job as a therapy horse, and making a craft to celebrate the day.

We can’t thank Hayley and Impact Horse enough for such a wonderful and inclusive morning.

Parents, this one is for you! Take a few hours for yourself while your children play and create in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space.

This program is designed to support children with disabilities, and siblings are welcome, too! Crafts, games, a movie, and pizza for dinner are all included. 🍕
