COME WORK WITH THE GOATS! 🌿🐐

Join Green Space Romeo, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and Lake St. Clair CISMA for a special volunteer workday alongside the goats from MichiGoat!

Come lend a hand tackling invasive woody plants and helping restore this beautiful 11-acre property! 🌳 Not able to volunteer? You’re still welcome to stop by and visit the goats!

October Workdays at the St. Paul’s Woods!

We have several opportunities to get outside and lend a hand this month! Join us for a short weekday workday or come out for our special GOAT Workday on October 17 and work alongside the Michigoat goats as they munch on invasive plants. 🐐

Tools, snacks, and water are provided. Come help us care for the St. Paul’s woods—every set of hands makes a difference!

Festival in the Woods on Saturday, September 26 was a great day to celebrate the Green Space Romeo, St. Paul's Episcopal Church and Lake St Clair CISMA partnership to restore the 11-acre St. Paul's woodland! Thank you to all of you and to our partners who made this a day to remember.

We are continuing to cut woody invasive plants and removing plants that are growing back - especially bittersweet. By clearing the forest floor, we'll see what natives are waiting to grow in the spring - as well as setting the stage for future native plantings. You bring the energy and your love for the outdoors. Your workday host will provide tools and gloves, snacks and water.

We are not having workdays this week but will resume in October.

Workdays are scheduled for the following dates and times:

October 8: 10:00–11:30 AM
October 13: 10:00–11:30 AM
October 17: 10:00 AM–12:00 PM
October 22: 10:00–11:30 AM
October 27: 10:00–11:30 AM

FESTIVAL IN THE WOODS IS TOMORROW! 🌿

Join St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Green Space Romeo tomorrow, Saturday, September 26, from 10 AM–3 PM for a FREE community celebration of nature, stewardship, and community!

There’s something for everyone to enjoy:

🌳 Explore the woods — Wander the trails and join nature & stewardship hikes to learn more about the property, local plants, wildlife, and restoration efforts.

🐐 Meet the baby goats! — Our adorable restoration helpers, including Vito and Nino (pictured), will be there from around 11 AM–1 PM.

🚌 Visit the Nature Bus — Shadbush Nature Center’s Nature on Wheels will be here with animal ambassadors from 11 AM–1 PM!

🎶 Enjoy live music — Featuring Ed Kiefer and Stacy Salles on harp, with performances at different times throughout the festival.

🎨 Games & activities for all ages — Enjoy rain barrel painting, a scavenger hunt, bookmark making, leaf tracing, coloring pages, yard games, a mini putt-putt course, and more!

🌱 Meet our community partners — Visit informational tables from our community partners to learn more about the organizations, programs, and environmental work happening throughout our community.

🍿 FREE POPCORN — A festival favorite!

🌭 Food & refreshments — Hot dogs, chips, and beverages will be available for a donation.

Stop by the Clinton River Watershed Council's table at Festival in the Woods to chat with their team, ask questions, and learn more about the work they do to protect and restore our watershed.

It’s a great opportunity to discover how the places we live, work, and play are all connected by water—and how we can all play a part in caring for it.

We know weekdays can be busy, so we’re offering two short workdays next week as an opportunity to pitch in if your schedule allows. We’ll be continuing our work to remove invasive plants and improve the health of the property.

There’s plenty of fun to be had at Festival in the Woods! This event will host family-friendly activities for all ages, with opportunities to be creative, get hands-on, and enjoy the outdoors together.

One special project? Painting water barrels for the church to use!

Whether you’re bringing little ones, big kids, or simply your own inner kid, come make something, play, and enjoy a day in the woods.

Small crew, BIG progress!🌿

Last Saturday, our small but mighty crew focused on the former Meditation Garden area along the west side of the entry trail at St. Paul’s.

We tackled regrowing bittersweet and other weeds, discovering many were growing through old landscape cloth anchored by bricks and pavers. We relocated the bricks and pavers and began removing the landscape cloth.

The result: 10 bags of bittersweet and weeds!

Every workday brings us one step closer to a healthier, more welcoming green space. Thank you to Anthony from Lake St Clair CISMA and to everyone who came out to help!
