Last week, the Women's Fund of Four County Community Foundation hosted a lunch and learn event at the St. Clement of Rome Social Hall in Romeo. Beth Taylor, a Community Group Leader, with the Michigan Anti-Trafficking Project (MAP), presented "The Reality of Human Trafficking: What We All Need to Know."

Here are some of the staggering statistics Beth shared:
⭕️28 million people are trafficking around the world every day
⭕️14 years is the average age when someone become a victim of trafficking
⭕️Human trafficking is considered the third largest sector of organized crime
⭕️Trafficking victims have often endured various hardships including racial discrimination, poverty, unstable housing, time spent in the foster care system, s*xual abuse and more.

What can be done to address it?
➡️End demand for s*x and labor trafficking
➡️Educate the public and, in particular, those who work in certain settings, to recognize the signs of trafficking.
➡️Purchase products labeled as "fair trade" or "ethically sourced"
➡️Join advocacy groups like the Michigan Anti-Trafficking Project

Attendees also had the opportunity to learn more about The Women's Fund and how they support local women in need through grant awards and volunteering their time.

Women's Fund members also took the time to make contributions to MAP and St. Clement of Rome's Hispanic Ministries.
