🏃‍♀️🚶‍♂️👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 This is exactly why we build trails.

This past weekend marked a major milestone for the Parke Community Rail Trail segment in Rosedale as it hosted its very first 5K event! A huge thank you to the Riverton Park Wrestling Club for organizing a fun and successful race that brought people together from across the community.

What made the day especially meaningful wasn't just the runners crossing the finish line. It was seeing the trail come alive with families, children, strollers, walkers, runners, and people of all ages enjoying a space created for everyone.

Trails are about more than pavement and bridges. They're about health, recreation, community connections, and creating places where memories are made. Seeing so many people using and enjoying the trail is a glimpse of what's possible as the Parke Trails system continues to grow.

From competitive runners chasing personal records to families taking a leisurely stroll, the trail welcomed them all.

The first 5K on the Rosedale Trail segment is now in the books, and if this weekend was any indication, it's only the beginning. 🌳❤️

Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, cheered, and supported this event. You are helping transform a vision into a vibrant community asset.

🌉✨ A Bridge to the Future, Built from the Past ✨🌉

Something remarkable is taking shape just south of the depot in Rockville.

The new covered bridge along the Parke Trails is rising over Bridgeton Road at the very location where a railroad bridge once carried travelers through the county. Designed in the style of Parke County's historic covered bridges and inspired by the craftsmanship of legendary bridge builder J.J. Daniels, this structure is more than a crossing. It is a tribute to our heritage and a gift to future generations.

What makes this project even more special is the community effort behind it. The logs used to build the bridge were generously donated by the Indiana Department of Forestry and local landowners. Those trees were then milled by a local sawmill, transforming local resources into a lasting landmark.

When completed, this section of trail will do more than connect destinations. It will connect people. The bridge will help link trail users to the local food pantry, creating another meaningful connection within our community.

Every beam, board, and bolt represents the dedication of countless partners, volunteers, donors, and supporters who believe in building something bigger than themselves.

As we watch this bridge take shape, we're reminded that trails aren't just about where they lead. They're about bringing communities together.

Stay tuned. The story is still being built. 🚴‍♀️🚶‍♂️🌳❤️

Another big step forward for the trail today. 🌿🛠️

Dedicated volunteers with the Parke Trails Alliance spent the day at Pipeline Road continuing work on Phase 2 of the Parke Community Rail Trail.

Today’s accomplishments included:
• Building and installing fencing
• Installing a new gate at Pipeline Road
• Setting the stone bollard on the north side
• Completing post fencing and bollard installation for this section
With this workday, the Pipeline Road section of Phase 2 is now complete. 🚴‍♀️🚶‍♂️

Projects like this do not happen without hardworking volunteers willing to give up evenings, weekends, sore muscles, and countless hours to build something lasting for the community. Every fence post, gate, bridge, and mile of trail represents people showing up again and again because they believe in creating something bigger than themselves.

Thank you to everyone who came out today and continues helping turn this vision into reality. The trail keeps growing one volunteer workday at a time. 🌳

Thanks everyone for coming out to our May meeting. Lots of exciting elements are in the pipeline.

Progress is rolling right along on the Parke Trails—and Jessup is starting to feel like a true trailhead, not just a dot on the map. 🌿🚶‍♀️

The Jessup trailhead is officially taking shape: ✔️ Trailhead construction is complete
✔️ Fence and gates are in place
✔️ Ready for the finishing touch landscaping

Still on the punch list: 🔧 Installing signage for handicap-accessible parking
🔧 Securing the railroad ties

Every post set, every board fastened, every detail dialed in it’s all building toward something bigger: a trail system that welcomes everyone to explore Parke County, one step (or pedal) at a time.

Huge thanks to the volunteers and partners putting in the work to make this happen. The transformation is real and it’s just getting started. 🌳💪
