One call for help can change a life. Having someone ready to answer can make all the difference.

This story, shared by Rescue America, describes a rescue coordinated through their hotline and a trusted partner organization.

Behind every hotline call is a person who may be frightened, threatened, and unsure who they can trust. Reaching out takes courage. What happens next matters.

At Project Lost Sheep, we believe victims deserve someone who will listen, take them seriously, and stand beside them as they seek safety.

Trained rescue teams are vital when someone’s safety is at risk. These situations require preparation, sound judgment, and careful coordination. Other trained volunteers provide essential support through victim advocacy, outreach, transportation, and connecting survivors with care. Each role helps make a path to safety possible.

The work doesn’t end when someone escapes. Healing takes time, and survivors need continued care, compassion, and people who will keep showing up.

Every volunteer, every partnership, and every person willing to help matters because every life matters.

A powerful message from one of the co-founders of Project Lost Sheep. This work is deeply personal, and our commitment remains the same: to protect the vulnerable, support survivors, and help set the oppressed free.

When we founded Project Lost Sheep in 2022, we began with one mission: De Oppresso Liber - to free the oppressed.

In the years since, we have received numerous hotline tips, conducted rescue operations, worked alongside law enforcement and safe-house partners, provided awareness and education in churches and schools, and spent countless hours reaching into vulnerable communities. Every call answered, every presentation given, and every hour of outreach has served one purpose: helping victims find safety, freedom, and hope.

Law enforcement plays an essential role in investigating crimes and holding offenders accountable. But accountability is only part of the fight. Victims also need someone beside them as they take the difficult steps toward safety and healing.

The heartbreaking reality is that some victims are afraid to approach law enforcement. Fear, shame, threats, trauma, or distrust may keep them silent. Nonprofit organizations can help bridge that gap by providing a safe place to turn, building trust, helping victims escape dangerous situations, connecting them with aftercare, and sharing valuable information that may help law enforcement identify offenders and protect others.

No single agency or organization can fight this evil alone. It takes law enforcement, nonprofits, safe houses, churches, schools, community partners, and dedicated volunteers working together. There are simply not enough people or resources to reach every victim, which makes every partnership and every volunteer even more important.

Our volunteers give their time to educate, liberate, and help restore lives. Without them, even more victims would fall through the cracks and never receive the help, hope, and healing they deserve.

The work of Project Lost Sheep will continue because victims will still need help, vulnerable communities will still need outreach, and we will continue answering that call.

Victims are not statistics. They are people. Their voices matter. Their lives matter. They should never have to walk the road to freedom alone.

"Howdy Partner! The Plough Girls Assoc. (PGA) is saddle-tight and headin’ into Reidsville for the Chili Competition Festival. Me and Jessie were up before the rooster crow, stokin’ the fire and gettin’ our pot of East Texas Red simmerin’ just right.

We’ll be posted up out front of La Boutique on S. Scales Street come high noon. Y’all best come a-packin’, ‘cause them tastin’ spoons are smaller than a rattler’s tooth—and you’re gonna want more’n one bite.

Now listen here—this ain’t just about chili and braggin’ rights. If you’ve got a little jingle in your pocket, toss it in the spittoon (classy as we get), and help us support Project Lost Sheep—a mighty important outfit workin’ hard to track down and bring home children caught up in human traffickin’.

Like Jessie says in Toy Story: “C’mon, Woody! We gotta get ‘em home!” And that’s exactly what we’re aimin’ to do.

If you wanna learn more ‘bout this good work, ride on over to projectlostsheep.org."

We greatly appreciate this support! Head downtown for an awesome chili cook-off today!
