When it comes to health care, what's your biggest concern right now: affordability, access to care, or what Medicare actually covers? And what would you like Congress to do about it?

Sam Page says he wants to make North Carolina teachers the highest paid in the Southeast and proposes more than $1 billion in additional education funding.

Our question is simple: Where will that additional $1 billion come from? Will it be new, recurring revenue, or will funding have to be redirected from other state programs?

Teachers, parents, and taxpayers deserve to know how the numbers add up.

Franklin Moore's background includes years of law enforcement service, along with experience supervising personnel in emergency communications. As a 9-1-1 Communications Shift Supervisor, he managed a team of four employees during 12-hour shifts.

That's another important part of his professional background.

Years of service, hands-on experience, leadership, and people management are all important qualifications to consider when evaluating candidates for Sheriff.

It's not just how long someone has served, but also the responsibilities they've held along the way.

Let's talk about the proposed Ellisboro Road development.

On Monday, October 19, our County Commissioners will consider a rezoning request for roughly 500 acres along Ellisboro Road. The proposal calls for about 1,100 homes, and the Planning Board has already recommended denying the request.

Now, we all know Rockingham County needs housing. We need places for young families to settle down and for folks to find homes they can afford. Nobody is arguing against that.

But 1,100 homes in a rural community is a pretty big change, and residents have some reasonable questions.

What about traffic? Schools? Fire and emergency services? Water and sewer? And what happens to the farmland and surrounding properties?

These are things that deserve answers before a decision is made.

The county already has a land-use plan that was put together to help guide growth. We think it's reasonable to expect our commissioners to use it.

We're not against growth. We just believe it needs to make sense for the community.

The commissioners meet Monday, October 19, at 6:30 PM at the Governmental Center in Wentworth.

If this issue matters to you, we encourage you to attend and stay involved. These decisions affect all of us, and the people who live in these communities deserve to be heard.

The Sheriff's Office is responsible for much more than enforcing the law. It requires sound management, responsible spending, good judgment, and the trust of the people it serves.

Experience is important. What a candidate plans to DO with that experience matters just as much.

We encourage Rockingham County voters to learn about Frank Moore, ask questions, and consider the kind of leadership they want for our Sheriff's Office.

Frank Moore for Rockingham County Sheriff!
