What an exciting week at String Orchestra Camp!

We’re so proud of our participants for the growth they’ve shown each day as musicians and for the way they’ve come together as ensembles through full orchestra rehearsals, sectionals, and plenty of fun along the way.

SEMYO bids a heartfelt farewell to Michael Sloane as he concludes four years of service as conductor of Bravura Strings.

We are grateful for the time, dedication, and leadership he has invested in building Bravura Strings into an established ensemble. Through his guidance, countless students have developed their musicianship and confidence, preparing them for continued success in SEMYO’s advanced orchestras and beyond.
Mr. Sloane’s rehearsals combined careful attention to detail and technical expertise with patience and humor and he will be missed!

Please join us in thanking Mr. Sloane for his many contributions to SEMYO and wishing him all the best as he continues his work with students at Faribault Public Schools.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Sarah Rusin as the next conductor of the Bravura Strings Orchestra! Dr. Rusin is a dedicated and kind teacher with many years of experience helping string players at every level strengthen their skills, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the SEMYO artistic team.

Dr. Rusin also teaches orchestra at John Adams Middle School, maintains a private violin and viola studio, and performs with the Rochester Symphony. She is already familiar to many of our SEMYO students, having served as a substitute conductor for Bravura and Chamber Strings and, most recently, as viola coach for Philharmonic and Concert Orchestra.

Thank you to our SEMYO student mentors who volunteered at Dakota Middle School - Rochester, MN , helping guide 6th grade orchestra students as they began their musical journeys on violin, viola, cello, and bass.

Bravo, SEMYO Musicians!

Our students rose to the occasion with focus and passion, truly taking flight in a memorable spring finale. Highlights included exciting performances from all five ensembles, a featured trumpet section solo by Prelude Winds, and a surprise tribute for Artistic Director Keehun Nam organized by Concert Orchestra students and conducted by violist Kobi Weroha.

We are so proud of the energy, growth, and musicianship our students demonstrated throughout the season! Thank you to our conductors, area music teachers, and parents for helping our young musicians soar! 🎶

SEMYO is pleased to recognize our graduating seniors. Join us in congratulating violinist William Yan, a senior at Century High School. William is currently the longest tenured member of SEMYO with 8 years and has participated in the Chamber Strings, Philharmonic, and Concert Orchestras. Next year, William will attend Northwestern University to study Applied Mathematics & Economics.

SEMYO is pleased to recognize our graduating seniors. Join us in congratulating violinist Ramón Campos, a senior at Mayo High School. Ramón has been a member of SEMYO for six years, participating in the Chamber Strings, Philharmonic, and Concert Orchestras. Next year, Ramón will attend Yale University to study Statistics and Data Science.
