A great idea doesn't always make a great business. This hands-on workshop helps founders understand what it actually takes to build a profitable, scalable, and sustainable business.

We'll break down the fundamentals of a strong business model, including how to price your product or service, understand your costs, protect your margins, and identify what drives profitability.
Founders will also explore the questions investors and lenders ask when evaluating a business, and learn how to pressure-test their own assumptions.

You'll leave with practical tools, a clearer understanding of your numbers, and a better sense of what needs to happen to turn your business into a financially sustainable company.

The Luminary Conference for women entrepreneurs gave us an amazing opportunity to connect with dozens of inspiring women who are building businesses in the Rochester, MN area!

Day One of the conference, presented by Alma Company, featured a Business Resource Fair where we caught up with old friends and met some new ones! It was a perfect afternoon of sharing information about our entrepreneurial programs and workshops, while being wowed by the stories of women following their professional dreams.

Our Interim Director of Communications, Megan Malugani, also served as a Business Growth Lab advisor to four up-and-coming businesses in the region. Megan and her co-advisors -- Rebecca Sell and Hilary Stonelake-Curtis -- provided enthusiastic support and thoughtful feedback to entrepreneurs on issues related to financing, law and marketing.

Thank you to Kristi Ackley and her team who made this event special and impactful, as well as to main sponsors Think Mutual Bank and Vye. We're already looking forward to next year!

Introducing high schoolers to entrepreneurship was a joy yesterday at Rochester's Youth Leadership & Success Summit!

Our Community Engagement Director, Laura Elwood, served on a Career Exploration Panel, sharing her own experiences as an entrepreneur and talking about helping other entrepreneurs in her current role.

Laura emphasized that it's okay -- and even positive -- to go down a few different paths during your career. Some of her best tidbits: 👉 "Failure is the best way to learn."
👉 "You don't have to choose your entire life today; pick the next interesting opportunity."
👉 "Stay curious, show up and ask questions. Those skills will transfer to whatever door you walk through."

An engaged group of workshop attendees built 30 days of social media in one hour with Eve Mayer from EveAndLevi.com yesterday!💻 🙌

Participants brought their laptops and were guided through some simple steps during this free session. In the end, they created a plan for an entire month of social media content -- in their voice, on their topics -- in only 60 minutes.

We may try to bring this popular, useful session back to Collider. Stay tuned!

There's something energizing about working with emerging leaders! Our Executive Director recently had the opportunity to spend time with University of Minnesota Rochester student government leaders at their retreat, where we talked about teamwork, leadership and what it takes to work effectively with others.

We explored how the skills they're building through student government -- from communication and collaboration to problem-solving and decision-making -- will serve them well beyond campus.

Leadership experience starts now, and these students are already building skills they'll carry into their careers and communities.
