We serve children ages 6-18 after school and during the summer. Clubs are open Monday-Friday after school and into the evening hours during the school year.

Our youth development program is both fun and educational and focused on three core outcomes: Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character and Citizenship, and Workforce Readiness. Our Service Area:

Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia currently serves children at our location in SE Roanoke as well as Shawsville Middle School, Christiansburg Middle School, Rocky Mount Elementary School, Lee M. Waid Elementary, Eastern Montgomery Elementary, and East Mont High School.

*The 9th Street location also serves as administrative headquarters. Summer camps operate all day Monday-Friday. The Roanoke Valley has summer camp at the 9th Street location.

Lights On Afterschool, Club member edition! 💡💙

At our Burlington Elementary Club, we celebrated Lights On Afterschool with a family night where our Club members became the teachers and their parents and siblings became the students!

Families got hands-on with the same STEM, arts and crafts, and physical fitness activities our members enjoy every day at the Club. We also talked about how many of these activities are easy to try at home together.

We were honored to welcome special guests from our local school board and Roanoke County Public Schools. Thank you to everyone who joined us. We had a great turnout, and it was tons of fun for everyone! 🎉

Thank you, First Horizon Foundation! 💙

We were honored to welcome the First Horizon Bank team to receive a generous gift in support of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia. Their support helps us provide programs and caring mentors to Club members across our community.

Partners like First Horizon Foundation help create a safe place where young people can learn, grow and belong. We are so grateful for their investment in local young people and for their commitment to our community.

Members at our 9th Street Club collected more than 200 pairs of fuzzy socks and turned them into “cupcakes” for our neighbors at The Rescue Mission of Roanoke . They rolled each pair, topped it with a pompom and wrapped it with a note that reads, “Here is a sweet treat for your feet!”

Their goal was simple: bring a smile to someone’s day and offer something practical to help keep people warm as the weather begins to change.

Thank you to The Rescue Mission for the work you do in our community and for the warm welcome when our Club members stopped by. Thank you also to everyone who helped them collect socks. We are so proud of their creativity, kindness and generosity! 💙

29 years ago today, Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia was chartered. 💙

Since then, more than 20,000 young people have found a place to learn, grow and belong.

That is only possible because of the caring staff, volunteers, donors, partners and families who show up for Club members year after year. Thank you for being part of our story.

And we’re just getting started. Something big is coming in 2027 as we celebrate 30 years. Stay tuned! ✨

On October 20, our founding members come together for the first time, and we’re still welcoming more community leaders to join them.

The Ambassador Circle is BGCSWVA’s volunteer program for people who want to do more for local kids all year long. Members pitch in at events like the Holiday Gift Project, the Delta Dental Pro-Am, and Four on the 4th, and speak up for the young people we serve right here in our community.

If you lead a team, a classroom, a congregation, or just your circle of friends, this is for you. Everyone who cares about kids is welcome.

Big thank you to Benny Casey! 💙

Benny recently gave his time and effort to deep clean the carpets in our first and second grade classroom at our 9th street Club. It may seem like a small task, but a fresh, clean space makes a real difference for our Club members who learn, play and grow there every day.

Volunteers like Benny help us keep our Clubs safe, welcoming and ready for young people. We are so grateful for his generosity and hard work.

Two hours, a whole lot of mulch, and one refreshed playground. 🛝

A huge thank you to our friends at Freedom First Credit Union for spending their annual employee giveback day with us at the 9th Street Club! Their team rolled up their sleeves to spread fresh mulch across our playground. That means a softer, safer space for our members to run, climb, and play.

We’re so grateful for partners who show up for Roanoke’s young people, and we’re glad to have them back again. 🧡

🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨

Twenty Club members just learned that "shopping spree" wasn't code for "window shopping."

Thanks to the amazing team at Academy Sports + Outdoors, each member received a $200 gift card during the grand opening celebration of their new Roanoke store!

The result?
😳 "Wait... REALLY?"
🤯 Complete shock
🏃 Kids racing through the aisles
😁 Smiles that could light up the entire store

Watching our members realize they had $200 to spend on anything they wanted was a moment we'll never forget.

Our RMES Club members spent time putting together care packages and creating handmade cards for individuals in our community who may be experiencing hard times. They wanted to spread a little kindness and remind others that they are cared about. 💙

Our staff delivered the care packages and cards to Stepping Stone Mission, where they'll help make a difference for those in need.

We are so proud of our Club members for showing kindness, compassion and what it truly means to give back! ✨
