This morning we brought the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle, to life! It was the perfect introduction for focusing on healthy foods as we launched our new Kid’s Cooking Class.

We started our plates with a spinach leaf for the caterpillar’s leaf and then built a caterpillar from grapes beside it.

The story introduced a number of fruits and we tasted each one. As the caterpillar nibbled, we nibbled too!

We saved our spinach leaf for the part of the story where the caterpillar ate one green leaf and felt much better. When my little friends were finally given permission to nibble their spinach ( we kept telling them throughout the story they could eat everything but the spinach 😉) they were so excited that they gobbled it right up….much to the delight of all the grown ups!

We continued tasting fruits that we thought the hungry caterpillar might have also liked and made a fruit tart with our favorites!

Today was so much fun, we can hardly wait for the next session!

It was a great morning with our friends for the first week of Summer Stories for elementary age children. We read a story about pollinators, had a very good discussion about the book and finished by planting flower seeds that would attract pollinators.

Many thanks to our Fairy Godmother Story Teller (Read Aloud WV of Jackson County Volunteer, AKA Sandy Summers). 💖

Ripley’s 1st “Art in the Alley” celebration is happening this Saturday from 4-8 and Explorers Children’s Museum will be there! We will have an area for sidewalk chalk creations, a painting project, and fun craft.

And, there will be food trucks and a variety of art vendors.

The City of Ripley will also be celebrating WV Day with cake and ice cream!

It’s going to be a great way to celebrate the first day of summer!

Our first Healthy Kid’s “Cooking Class” will be held Friday morning, June 19th at 11am in the STEAM room!

All ages are welcome!

🏁🚗 We are having such fun with our tiny racers that we will have them in the STEAM room until supplies run out.

We also added a super cool race track to the lobby today so once you personalize your car, bring it to the lobby and let it roll!
