KALIGRAFOS OCTOBER MEETING, SATURDAY THE 10th:
Our guest for this month presentation will be Cláudio Gil, from Rio de Janeiro-Brazil, with a very catching title about Blackletters/ Gothic Scripts. “The Lies Nobody Ever Told You About Calligraphy”

“The talk takes Gothic scripts as a starting point for exploring the narratives, myths, and imaginaries that shape our understanding of calligraphy.
Rather than simply separating historical facts from misconceptions or popular beliefs, it uses fabulation as a critical and pedagogical tool, investigating how different stories can expand our perception of this tradition”. According to Cláudio “My intention is to present calligraphy not only as a practice grounded in discipline and formal precision, but also as a field of imagination, interpretation, and meaning-making. I cannot see myself working without these last fields…”
Cláudio Gil is a designer, artist, calligrapher, and professor, born in Rio de Janeiro in 1968. He is a PhD candidate in the Graduate Design Program at EBA/UFRJ and holds a master’s degree in design from the Higher School of Industrial Design (ESDI-RJ). His research focuses on paleography, calligraphy, and visual languages. The solid foundation acquired through both research and practice enables him to explore and transcend the limits of the classical tradition, producing diverse bodies of work marked by freshness, a distinctive characteristic of his contemporary practice.

Our meeting room is the Ogden Fellowship Hall on the first floor.

Social time begins at 9:30 am. The business meeting begins at 10 am, followed by the program until noon.

For this October kaligrafos.com meeting we will have the Program :“The Lies Nobody Ever Told You About Calligraphy” , presented by . Cláudio Gil is a designer, artist, calligrapher, and professor, born in Rio de Janeiro in 1968. He is a PhD candidate in the Graduate Design Program at EBA/UFRJ and holds a master’s degree in design from the Higher School of Industrial Design (ESDI-RJ). His research focuses on paleography, calligraphy, and visual languages.He teaches art, design, and calligraphy at a variety of institutions. A self-taught calligrapher, he began his first investigations and experiments in 2003 and has since conducted more than 400 workshops over the past twenty years in Brazil, Latin America, Canada, and Europe.

Thanks to everyone who passed by our table during the last edition of the . We had such good time knowing new people and reconnecting with old friends, and got your name penned in a nice bookmark! We couldn’t do this without the support of our guild members who volunteered during these four days, helping to setting the tables, penning names and talking with the public about Kaligrafos. A great thanks to for having us all these years, and surely will be back for more during the next time!

Kaligrafos calligraphy guild is delighted to announce our first workshop of the season: Spencerian Script Adventure with Kalo Chu (Instagram: ) Kalo is an incredible penman and regular instructor at IAMPETH. This workshop is solely on Zoom, so anyone in the world can register! The non-member price includes a Kaligrafos membership for the year which grants you access to all of our monthly programs as well.

KALIGRAFOS SEPTEMBER MEETING, SATURDAY 12th 2026.
Welcome to our new season of Kaligrafos! After a long Summer we are back to our activities and workshops. We have lined up some new and interesting programs for our calendar of activities. Our guest lecturer for this meeting (via ZOOM) will be Nikola Pang, a well known fellow Calligrapher, Vintage pen & nibs seller, apart of his numerous endeavors in Conferences and Pen Shows.
Nik is a California-based calligrapher and engraver who has been mastering classic Western calligraphy since 2013. As the founder of , he combines his passion for handwritten art with a deep appreciation for the tools and traditions that bring letterforms to life.
Nikola brings professional expertise from over a decade of creating elegant calligraphy for prestigious clients including Montblanc and Cartier, as well as custom awards and commissions that demand precision and artistry. As an instructor at Stanford University, he has honed his ability to make historical scripts accessible and engaging for students at every level.

KALIGRAFOS APRIL MEETING, Saturday the 11TH
This will be an Hybrid meeting from Sherry’s House and available for via zoom for those who can’t attend. It’ll be a busy day with our monthly reunion and a workshop after that. The presenter for this meeting will be Elyce Longazelle the creator behind , specializing in handmade-—potted, artisan resin pen blanks that bring vibrant, eye-catching colors to life. Mentored by Jim Hinze from Company, Elyce has been perfecting her resin-casting techniques for over five years. After our regular meeting will continue with our Wedding Calligraphy Workshop with Nicole Black. (For those attending the workshop, don’t forget to bring your lunch)
