What if the best ideas for your Tribal workforce program are already happening in northern Nevada?

The Nevadaworks Tribal Workforce Summit brings together TERO, Tribal workforce staff, leaders, administrators, state workforce liaisons and other partners to share practical strategies, resources and best practices that can be put to work in Tribal communities.

Because the goal isn’t just to attend another conference, take notes and go home. It’s to connect with peers, learn what’s working and bring new ideas back to your Tribe.

September is Workforce Development Month, and DETR will be sharing the programs and organizations making a difference in Nevada.

Workforce development is business development; it’s built through partnerships with schools and industries, entry-level employees, and mentors. Workforce development builds a strong economy, and it couldn’t be done without partnerships at the local, state, and federal levels.

To everyone who helps build the backbone of Nevada - we thank you.

Thanks to the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals for creating to celebrate the profession, recognize the people, and share the impact.

Strong talent pipelines start with strong partnerships.

We’re proud to highlight Kristen Dwyer, Program Manager at Nevadaworks, who represented our team at the NAWDP - National Association of Workforce Development Professionals Business Services Academy in Las Vegas and presented during the session “Apprenticeship Accelerator: Helping Employers Build Talent Pipelines through Registered Apprenticeship.”

The session explored how employers and workforce partners can use Registered Apprenticeship to recruit, train, retain and advance talent, creating stronger pathways for job seekers while helping businesses build the skilled workforce they need to grow.

Thank you to NAWDP for having us and bringing workforce professionals together to share ideas, strengthen partnerships and advance solutions that support Nevada’s workforce.

We’re proud to see Kristen sharing her expertise and contributing to the conversation around how apprenticeship can strengthen talent pipelines and expand opportunity across Nevada.

We had a great time at our recent Nevadaworks Board Meeting! 🤝

A big thank you to Kevin Landry, Board Chair, and all of our board members for coming together and continuing to champion workforce development across Northern Nevada.

Collaboration is an important part of strengthening our workforce system. We were pleased to welcome our Southern Nevada workforce partners, Workforce Connections, for an informational presentation and discussion on the approaches of Nevada’s two local workforce boards, effective practices and opportunities for collaboration. Thank you to the Workforce Connections team for joining us and sharing their insights!

We also heard updates from the Nevadaworks Youth Council, focused on supporting youth workforce efforts and expanding career exposure; 150+ RSVPs for our Industry Sector Partnership convening, bringing industry leaders together to address workforce challenges; and Detr Nevada’s $5 million investment to enhance industry sector partnerships, with additional resources for small businesses.

We’re grateful to our board members, partners and team for the time, leadership and collaboration that keep this work moving forward.

Temporary Housing Support for Hawk Fire Evacuees

United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra is partnering with Airbnb.org, a nonprofit dedicated to providing emergency housing during times of crisis, to help residents displaced by the Hawk Fire access free temporary housing.

How it works:

Partners identify residents who need emergency, temporary housing and connects them with Airbnb.org.

Airbnb.org provides eligible families with credits to book a temporary Airbnb stay that meets their needs.

Through this partnership, families can access a network of Airbnb listings and generous hosts in and around the impacted areas.

All eligible stays are free for guests and funded by Airbnb.org.

To apply visit uwnns.org/hawkfire

This is possible in a joint collaborative effort between UWNNS and Airbnb.org in partnership with Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada, Nevada 211 , American Red Cross of Nevada , Washoe County School District Family Resource Center , and Scouting America - Nevada Area Council.

Investing in young Nevadans means investing in Nevada’s future workforce.

We’re proud to partner with the Nevada Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs and Detr Nevada to support Up Next Nevada.

The Nevada Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs recently shared public comment and testimony before the Interim Finance Committee in support of continued investment in the program, joined by Up Next Nevada Ambassadors DeMelle Cooley and Faith Reid.

Programs like Up Next Nevada help young Nevadans explore career pathways, connect with opportunities and build the skills and confidence they need for what comes next.

When we connect young people to career opportunities early, we’re not just preparing them for their futures. We’re strengthening Nevada’s workforce for years to come.

We’re grateful to our partners for helping make that possible.
