We're excited to announce our newest Board members, Edgar and John! 🎉

Edgar Castellanos is a proud Upward Scholars alum who experienced firsthand how our programs open doors and change lives. He his two associate degrees supported by Upward Scholars and his years of experience in the construction industry to build a thriving remodeling company, Topline Remodeling Inc. Now, Edgar is eager to give back to the community that helped him move up by joining our board and championing the students walking the same path he once did.

Access to education starts with the right tools! 📚

At Upward Scholars, we know that the cost of textbooks and course materials creates real barriers for students. That’s why we provide support to help cover these essential resources each semester, ensuring our scholars have what they need to succeed in the classroom.

As textbook prices continue to rise, this support helps our students stay focused on their studies rather than worry about how to afford their materials.

By donating to Upward Scholars, you’re investing directly in a student’s education and future. Together, we can remove barriers, increase equity in the classroom, and open doors to opportunity. 🤝

Celebrating Dolores Huerta Day ✊🏽 🌼

Today, we honor the legacy of Dolores Huerta, a trailblazing labor leader, civil rights activist, and advocate for education and equity. A co-founder of the United Farm Workers and a lifelong champion of women's rights and immigrant dignity, Dolores has spent over six decades proving that ordinary people can change the world.

Her lifelong work uplifting farmworkers and immigrant communities continues to inspire generations. Her powerful message, "Sí se puede," reminds us that change is possible through perseverance, community, and collective action.

At Upward Scholars, we are proud to carry forward that spirit by supporting adult immigrant students as they pursue education, opportunity, and a brighter future.

OYE! Conference 2026 🎓✨

We were honored to return to Cañada College for this year’s 14th Annual Orgullo y Educación (OYE) Conference, where the theme was “Resilient and Strong; We Always Carry On”.

This powerful event brought together over 400 people to explore Latina/e/o/x identity, culture, and community through inspiring speakers, interactive workshops, and meaningful connections.

A very special thank you to our incredible peer mentors, Elizabeth López and Monica Ingunza, and our Programs Coordinator, Alma Noriega, who represented Upward Scholars with pride and passion. Your support and leadership helped make the day a great success! 🙌

🌾 Happy Farmworkers Day! 🌾

On March 31, we honor the countless hands and hearts that built the farmworkers movement. This movement has always been the story many: the women who organized in the shadows, survivors—like Dolores Huerta—who held their truth for decades before the world was ready to hear it, Filipino workers like Larry Itliong and Philip Vera Cruz who led the Delano Grape Strike, and undocumented immigrants who risked everything for dignity and justice.

This Farmworkers Day, we uplift every voice that was silenced, every name that was left out of the history books, and every worker who still bends down in the fields today so we can eat.

To the farmworkers in our community, we see you. We are grateful to you. We stand with you. Your sacrifices are the foundation of this movement, and your dignity is non-negotiable. 🍇

Happy International Women’s Day! 💐

A woman who learns, earns, and leads doesn’t rise alone — she lifts everyone around her. 🌍

When women access higher education and economic opportunity, child health improves. Household incomes grow. Communities become more resilient. Generational cycles change.

Empowering one woman is never just about one woman.
This , let’s celebrate the ripple effect — and commit to removing every barrier that slows it down. 💜
