This weekend, October 17-18, WCF hosts the Washington Challenger's Cup and the Washington Women's Championship at Hotel 116 in Bellevue! 150 players are registered for the WA Challenger's Cup, a 5-round, G/90;+30 Swiss in three sections: Gukesh Open, Pragg U1800, and Sarin U1400. All sections are dual USCF + NWSRS rated, and the Gukesh Open and Pragg U1800 are also FIDE rated. Headlining the field in the Gukesh Open are GM Vladimir Belous, FM Ted Wang, NM Vihaan Jammalamadaka, FM Megan Lee, FM Nikash Vemparala, NM Vidip Kona, NM Matthew Wilber, FM Ryan Porter, NM Anton Barash, and the legendary NM Viktors 'Unkel Vik' Pupols!
A solid showing of 25 Chess Queens turned out for the 2026 Washington Women's Championship! The field is split evenly between 4 sections, each with a different schedule: Polgar Championship, Wenjun U1300, Yip U700, and Botez Casual. Top players in the Polgar Championship section include WFM Chouchan Airapetian, Akshaya Anilkumar, Sangeeta Dhingra, Miranda Meng, Loida Guo, Shanna Wu, Eevie Tare, Sinuo Evelyn Lou, Elina Khudyev, Martina Szeto, and Riya Sridhar.
