We started our 6/17 meeting by recognizing John Duff as our May Member of the Month. He earned it based on his tireless efforts to deliver an efficient and effective payment system for our Vintner's Dinner fundraiser. Wait--there's more: he also was the key Kiwanis member helping to organize the Fish Fair.

Next up, Kiwanis member and Fire Marshall, Tom Mooney. He informed us about the duties he and his team perform: code enforcement, building plan reviews, fire investigations, issuing permits, public education and most recently the added work of assessing and advising about wild fire defensible space. It's high school graduation time and that means scholarships! Redmond Kiwanis awarded 11 students in the Redmond area a total $19,000. In this picture, member Mike Patrick gives a student a scholarship established in his father's honor, Vern Patrick. Member Aaron Lee was also involved in giving out a scholarship in his family's honor. "It is truly inspiring to be part of these events, to get just a glimpse into the possibilities and promises these graduating seniors hold", commented Aaron.

We started our 6/3 meeting welcoming Aaron Lee to membership in the club. Seen here with his sponsor Carl and our President Dave. Aaron's Dad Don Lee was a member for over 50 years. "You may not get me for 50 years but I am looking forward to continuing my Dad's legacy of service." Welcome Aaron!

In the spirit of service, we welcomed Olivia Townsend Parker, Executive Director of the Family Kitchen, as our speaker. From its humble beginnings in 1986 at Trinity Episcopal Church to now, serving through various locations in Central Oregon, Family Kitchen prepares and serves meals with love and compassion. Over 12,000 meals per month are served through their kitchens in Central Oregon and over 10,000 meals in Redmond year-to-date. Learn more at https://www.familykitchen.org/

On Memorial Day, Jane, our President-Elect, and husband Todd, made a memorable meal for guests at Bend's Ronald McDonald House. Serving our community in this way is part of what Kiwanis is all about: filling hungry bellies, easing daily burdens and creating a sense of home when families need it most!
