- October is Let’s Talk Month, where we encourage parents, caregivers and trusted adults to start talking —and keep talking, to their kids about s*x.

It’s not one conversation, but many. ANC it can start when they’re toddlers, body parts, safe touch, boundaries (which teaches the basics of consent). Age appropriate, open and honest communication, this is what makes a difference.

- October 🍁🍂🤎🧡 —our favorite time of year. And “Let’s Talk” month, when we encourage parents and caregivers to start talking to their kids about s*x.

Age appropriate and factual information for kids sets in place a foundation for healthy choices.

Data shows that young people who talk with their parents about s*x are more likely to delay s*xual activity and implement risk reduction, like using birth control, when they are s*xually active .

October is all about traditions —autumn vibes, pumpkin spice, falling leaves, trick or treat… and Let’s Talk month.

Let’s Talk month was created over a decade+ ago to encourage parents, caregivers and trusted adults to talk to kids about s*x -and all things related to s*xual health. S*x Ed does indeed, start at home. 🏡

As we arrive on the doorstep of another October, let’s remember to engage and educate our youth with knowledge and facts about healthy relationships, consent, birth control, —all of it. Because it matters.

✅ Clear and Enthusiastic: It’s not just eh absence of No. —Consent must be an active, affirmative “yes” through words or actions.

✅ Reverseable: Anyone can change their mind -at any time, and withdraw consent, even in the middle of an activity.

✅Sober and Capable: Someone who is asleep, unconscious, or heavily under the influence of drugs or alcohol cannot give valid consent. Period.

✅ Ongoing: Consent is a continuous conversation. It must be checked and maintained as things progress.

✅ Specific: Agreeing to one type of activity or one specific act does not mean someone is agreeing to everything or future acts.

✅ Freely Given: Consent cannot be obtained through manipulation, guilt, coercion, threats, or abuse of a power imbalance.
