The 17th Annual Ernie Orphanos Memorial Golf Classic was held on Sunday, August 30, 2026, concluding another successful tournament hosted by the Reading AHEPA Chapter No. 61.

Congratulations to the 2026 tournament foursome champions – Nick Lambros, Ryan McCallum, Drew Cammarano and Josh Pollett.

We were truly blessed with beautiful weather, and all participants had a most enjoyable day of golf, fellowship, and good food, held for the first time at the Galen Hall Golf Course in Wernersville, PA.

In addition to the 80 golf participants, over 40 individual/business sponsors, volunteers, and guests helped raise $19,981 for chapter scholarships and other community projects.

Since 2010, the Reading AHEPA Chapter has awarded more than $64,000 in scholarships to help local youth further their education.

On July 20, 1974, Turkey invaded Cyprus.

Fifty-two years later, Turkey has never been compelled to withdraw its troops, reverse the division it imposed by force, or fully answer for the lives and communities it shattered.

In the decades since, the international community has condemned the invasion, passed resolutions, and called for negotiations.

But condemnation without consequences is not accountability.

Today, we remember those who were killed, displaced and disappeared. We honor those who defended Cyprus. And we renew the demand that the world finally hold Turkey accountable.

The Gust. C. Kraras Order of AHEPA Chapter No. 61 donated $2,000 to support a mission trip to Mexico by members of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Reading, PA.

Tony Phyrillas, treasurer of the Gust C. Kraras AHEPA Chapter No 61, presented the check to the Mission Team on Sunday, June 28, 2026.

The Mission Team, led by Father Cornelius Grandberry, will spend a week in Tijuana, Mexico, helping to build a house for a needy family.

The team has been raising money for the trip in recent weeks. It is selling authentic Mexican blankets and sponsored a Taco Sale during the church's fellowship hour.

AHEPA member Ion Craciun, pictured right, is matching the chapter donation, so with the $2,000 from the chapter, the $2,000 from Craciun, and the $1,000 raised during the Taco Sale, the Mission Trip collected $5,000 to cover expenses for the trip.

On the third Sunday of May each year, all AHEPA chapters celebrate “AHEPA Day” to honor the organization's philanthropic, educational, and civic contributions, as well as its longstanding support for the Greek Orthodox Church and Hellenic values.

During the church service on May 17, 2026, at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, a memorial service was conducted to commemorate the memory of our departed AHEPA brothers over the past 101 years in the Greek community of Reading.

An AHEPA Day publication was distributed to all parishioners listing the departed Brothers over the past 101 years.

Following the church service, AHEPA recognized four outstanding AHEPA scholarship award recipients with $1,000 scholarships each. The 2026 recipients are Luke Elliker, Ava Futrick, DaMarcus Peoples, and Katherine Wadsworth. Each of these talented youth has a very promising future exhibited by their outstanding academic achievement, leadership qualities, and active involvement in church, school and community activities.

After the scholarship presentation, the AHEPA co-hosted a luncheon for the church community as a thank you for the continued support of our service organization.
