📢FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

✨Good Medicine Indigenous Wellness Celebration Returns to Riverfront Park✨

All are invited to attend the fourth annual Good Medicine Indigenous Wellness Celebration at Riverfront Park on Saturday, June 13th from 11 am to 3 pm, hosted by Widoktadwen Center for Native Knowledge. Join us for a day of free outdoor family fun at the riverfront! The event will be preceded by a park cleanup from 9-11 am, hosted by Keep Reading Beautiful. All supplies provided to volunteers.

Free kayaking demos 🛶will be available courtesy of Alvernia’s Outdoors Club, and the City of Reading Public Works Department will be providing a complimentary picnic lunch and water throughout the day. Listen to some traditional Native American stories at 11:30 am and view a live beading demonstration throughout the event. Free blood pressure screenings will be provided by Freedom Medical Clinic and PA Department of Health will be sharing valuable community health resources and information.

Spirit Wing Arts & Music, a Native American musical duo, will be performing some original songs and sharing stories from Pennsylvania’s history through historical replica wampum belts. Eastern woodland social dance demos led by Spirit Wing will take place at 12 pm and 1:30 pm. A healthy Native recipe demo will take place at 12:30 pm with sampling to follow. Barrio Alegria’s Grupo Uarhani, a Mexican folkloric dance troupe, will perform at 1 pm. Culture Shock Dance Studio in Hamburg is bringing dancers from their Polynesian dance class for a demonstration at 2 pm.

Learn about Native American approaches to health and wellness and access a vast resource library of health promotion materials focused on Urban Native health. Ask Widoktadwen’s Community Health Worker your questions about preventative health insurance, healthcare needs, and referrals to trusted providers.

Bring your picnic blankets, camping chairs, sunscreen, and a refillable water bottle to spend the day enjoying Riverfront Park and recreation on the Schuylkill River. For more information about Widoktadwen Center for Native Knowledge and Indigenous community health, visit www.widoktadwen.org.
