🌳Big congratulations to GRCDO Board Member Alexis LaSalle, owner of Turf Doc Landscaping!

Small businesses do more than provide goods and services. They help strengthen the communities they call home — creating opportunities, building connections, and investing in the places where we live and work.

For nearly three years, Alexis has been growing his landscaping business while also giving his time and energy to his community. Now, he’s taking another exciting step forward as a recently accepted participant in the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program. 🌟

The program creates opportunities for entrepreneurs to learn, grow, and think bigger about what’s possible through business education, resources, and access to a national network of fellow small business owners.

We’re excited for Alexis to have this opportunity to build on what he’s already accomplished, strengthen his landscaping business, and continue making a difference in his community.

Throwback Thursday 📸

A couple of Saturdays ago, we joined our friends at the West Baltimore County Redevelopment Authority and community partners for a bus tour of West Baltimore County, including the Liberty Road Corridor. Along the way, various stakeholders talked about the opportunities for their neighborhoods as well as some challenges.

From the Emmart Pierpont Safehouse to the conversations happening on the bus, it was very clear there are a lot of people who care deeply about these communities and are committed to making them better.

We may each approach the work from a different perspective, but when we share ideas, build partnerships and find ways to support and build on one another’s efforts, we can create momentum that benefits the whole corridor.

Change doesn’t happen overnight. It takes pride, perseverance, collaboration – and people willing to keep showing up because they believe better is possible.

This spirit is one of the reasons we’re so encouraged by the momentum we’re seeing along the Liberty Road Corridor. We’re especially excited about what we can accomplish together. 💚💙

There’s so much history right here along the Liberty Road Corridor, and sometimes you just have to stop and listen to the stories.

The Emmart Pierpont Safe House was the first stop on last Saturday’s West Baltimore County Redevelopment Authority (WBCRA) bus tour 🚐. GRCDO Board member Shirley Supik and her husband, Jeff, shared some of the property’s remarkable history, including its connections to the Underground Railroad.

For Shirley and Jeff, that connection is especially meaningful.

We’re grateful for opportunities to learn from the people who know these communities best, and to work alongside partners who care as much as we do about the future of the Liberty Road Corridor and the neighborhoods that surround it.

A new chapter for a place with a long history. 🌳

Last Thursday, Baltimore County celebrated the ribbon cutting for the newly renovated Gwynn Oak Park. GRCDO Board Chair Hennither Gant and Board Member Belinda Merritt were there to celebrate with the community and see the improvements firsthand.

This 96-acre community gathering place, with more than a century of history, now boasts a brightly colored, accessible playground, additional picnic pavilions (available to rent!), improved walking paths, beautiful landscaping, expanded parking, a refurbished stage, new restrooms and an updated entrance plaza.

💚💙 We especially love the ways the new design honors the site’s history as the former home of Gwynn Oak Amusement Park (1893–1973) 🎢 — from roller-coaster-inspired elements throughout the playground to gorgeous entrance signage that reflects the park’s original identity.

Gwynn Oak Park is another example of the exciting revitalization happening along the Liberty Road corridor — creating inviting places to gather, improving quality of life and honoring the rich history that makes these communities uniquely ours. 🧡
