🎉Over 175 people gathered June 16 on The Salvation Army Center of Hope campus in Anaheim, California, to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new 22,000-square-foot building.

Designed to expand services and support collaboration, the facility will house a centralized case management hub for Salvation Army programs in Anaheim, along with medical and dental offices, a 200-person worship and multipurpose room, and the Center for Applied Research and Innovation (CARI). 🙏

After three years of planning and fundraising, construction of the new building is set to begin.

💬 Major Ken Perine, Divisional Secretary for Orange County and Tustin Ranch Corps Officer, said, “Today is more than a construction milestone—it’s a mission milestone.” He also gave thanks to God for his guidance and hand in the project.

⛺️ Ed Covert spent 37 summers serving at Salvation Army camps.

"The mission of camp is to create disciples," Covert said. "For kids to come to camp and begin to differentiate their faith, to know that there's something about following Jesus today that helps me to be a kinder person, to be a more loving person." 🙏

🙏For children facing uncertainty, "play creates space for creativity, comfort and even a sense of control," according to Brittany Cruickshank, Associate Manager for Mattel Children’s Foundation and Corporate Philanthropy.

That's why Mattel partners with The Salvation Army USA to ensure children have toys during the holidays and all year long. ❤️

💬"There’s something really powerful about a child receiving a toy that’s theirs—something new, something chosen with them in mind or something they get to select themselves. It sends a simple but important message: you matter," Cruickshank said.

🎉“Proclaim His Holy Name,” the Service of Appointments, marked the afternoon the Keepers of the Covenant received their first appointments as lieutenants in The Salvation Army, and the culmination of the 2026 “Holy Forever” Commissioning weekend.

The June 14 service at the Cerritos Center for Performing Arts in Cerritos, California, began with music from the Territorial Staff Band and Staff Songsters. Then came a celebratory entrance of territorial leaders, Service Corps and the now second-year cadets, the Proclaimers of Transformation.

☝️Territorial Commander Commissioner James Betts welcomed the crowd to the meeting and, after a time of worship, Territorial Secretary for Personnel Lt. Colonel Charles Fowler recognized this year's recipients of the Divine Servant Award.

Next, Session Speaker Lt. Brendan Armendariz took the podium. He told his session mates: "Do not lose sight of your first love. May we never become complacent in doing good, let us never lose our passion for Christ.” 🙏

Sue-Ellen Betts then offered a charge to the Keepers of the Covenant.

💬 "There will be seasons when the soil feels very hard, when the fruit seems small and sometimes even non-existent, and when your labor feels very costly and you just cannot see what God is doing. That raises the question: What will you do when ministry looks like this?,” she said.

“Because sometimes it will. In those moments, your covenant will be tested. Not because God has left you, but because ministry will require you to trust him in ways you never have had to before.”

✨Finally, the Bettses appointed each of the Keepers of the Covenant to serve in their first ministry appointment as Salvation Army officers across the Western Territory.
