Raleigh Coin Club The Raleigh Coin Club is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to educating and encouraging

The Raleigh Coin Club is the Triangle area's largest and longest-running coin club! We got our start back in 1954 and have been going strong ever since! But we're so much more than a group of coin collectors -- our members also collect paper money, medals, tokens and numismatic books! (There may even be a few stamp collectors amongst us!) We have beginning collectors, advanced collectors and colle

ctors at every stage in between -- you'll never be "out of place" as a member of the Raleigh Coin Club. One of the strengths of the Raleigh Coin Club is the diversity of its members. With so many different areas of collecting interest among its membership, you're sure to find a kindred spirit within our friendly group. Wouldn't it be great to find other collectors with whom you could...
• Share your enthusiasm for the hobby?
• Swap stories about your latest purchase?
• Learn from or help educate? We are a non-profit organization whose by-laws dictate that we work at advancing the science of numismatics. With this in mind we are keenly interested in doing activities that promote the hobby in the community. We sponsor an annual Coin Show, usually near the middle of July, where the membership is encouraged to put together educational exhibits, meet the collecting community that attends, and help answer collector's questions at our club table. We are developing plans to make the Raleigh Coin Club a force in the hobby. If you want to get more involved in the hobby we again encourage you to join us. We look forward to personally welcoming you as a member of the Raleigh Coin Club at our next meeting!

Numismatics can be all about learning about history, coinage, and the odd things that occur. Take for example these 4 encased postage minted in Germany in 1920/1921. The Germans has experimented with clay coins, coal coins, silk / leather / linen banknotes, so why not encased postage.

By 1920 cellophane had been invented so unlike American encased postage during the Civil War that used mica, these German encased postage used a stiff cellophane.

How did that encased postage work out in the Civil War eh?

Let your passion for Numismatics run free at the upcoming Raleigh Money Expo. June 26-28, 2026 at the Exposition Center on the NC State Fairgrounds. Doors open to the public at 10am each day.

Free admission, free parking, and free games / prizes for the young ones.

Well!! Germany had similar problems in 1921 where good money was fleeing in the face of economic chaos and so merchants experimented with German encased postage.
