A Father’s Grief by Eileen Knight Hagenmeister

It must be very difficult to be a man in grief, since ‘men d on’t cry’ and ‘men are strong’, no tears can bring relie
It must be very difficult to stand up to the test, and field calls and visitors so that she can get some rest.

They always ask if she’s alright and what she’s going through, but seldom take his hand and ask, “My friend, how are you?”

He hears her cry in the night and thinks his heart will break. And dries her tears and comforts her but “stays strong” for her sake.

It must be very difficult to start each day anew and try to be so very brave – He lost his baby too.

Many survivors have experienced the shock of witnessing their loved one's death, or the immediate aftermath. It's brutal and can have lasting effects. Please seek out counseling and therapy to deal with the effects of this trauma. EMDR is a growing treatment for the effects of PTSD and similar conditions.

When a sibling dies by su***de, your shared history goes with them. The childhood you had together. The person who knew you before you became who you are now. The future you assumed would include them.

If you’ve lost a brother or sister to su***de, your grief deserves care and attention.
